Ilhan Omar after President Trump tweeted a video of the Minnesota Democrat spliced with footage of the burning twin towers. “Following the President’s tweet, I spoke with the Sergeant-at-Arms to ensure that Capitol Police are conducting a security assessment to safeguard Congresswoman Omar, her family and her staff,” Pelosi (D-Calif.) said in a statement. “They will continue to monitor and address the threats she faces.” The tweet came after conservative media outlets last week circulated a snippet of a recent speech made by the freshman Democrat, one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress. Last week, a man in New York was arrested and charged with threatening to kill Omar, whom he had described as a “terrorist.” The next day, Trump criticized the Minnesota Democrat during a speech to a conservative Jewish group, declaring that Omar “doesn’t like Israel.”

The President's rhetoric is dangerous and there are ways of expressing factual statements that do not encourage threats to the subject's safety. its so bizarre to me that people are convinced that every muslim is an evil terrorist. i consider myself very lucky to have sane parents and to have grown up in a multicultural setting. rough a quarter or even more kids at my high school were muslim or came from muslim families, so a lot of my friends were muslim. they were no different from an other kid i grew up around, they just had a different faith to the christian kids but everyone got along.
