They're desperate. They know they're playing the losing game and they're doing anything they can to gain customer goodwill. I doubt it'll work.
GTA4 and Wii Fit? Yikes, that image is ancient.
I used to regularly shop at Gamestop but after a while it kinda just fizzled out. I dont know if it's changed but they never had release day delivery, which was one of the biggest things for me, and I don't necessarily want to go to / there isn't always a midnight release for every game, so I started to buy stuff either on Amazon or on digital. At least amazon prime has a de-facto method of saving money built right into just buying games The only nice thing about gamestop was if you played the trade-in deals just right with a pro member card, you could build up a decent amount of credit over a few months. My best score was trading in 3 old DS pokemon games and 2 cheaper games on top for $120 dollars, eventually I was able to get half price off a new PS4 on release.
do they already do this for used games?
Steam combined with entering my 20s and no longer being able to justify spending $400 on buying a new console after the Wii killed GameStop for me.
of course its in store credit lmao
You get like a week to return a used game. You don't have to take in store credit either, just keep the receipt.
Honestly, can you blame them?
There's just so much nerd shit at Gamestop. I feel like I should be shoving the employees into lockers. Used to just be games and the occasional piece of merch, but now it's Funkos and Five Nights at Fuckies everywhere with employees constantly bothering you about deals when you just wanna buy a used game real quick. It used to be a fun place to visit, but now it just feels all gross. Like, most of the products that they sell aren't even good. It's just shoddy plastic trinkets that cost way too much. It used to be about just the games, now it's just whatever sort of pop culture schlock they can shove into every corner of the store.
Don't forget the CRT suspended on the ceiling
a relic from a better time
gamestop only exists now as fan merch and buying older games. fan merch is done better by literally any other store including walmart and older games you might as well find a nearby local owned shop. Local shops generally take far better care and concern into the games they sell. Gamestop shot themselves in the foot trying to maximize profits so now you've got employees putting out barely working consoles and games and pushing so fucking hard for whatever their flavor of the week "we have too much of shitty item lets sell it" sales
It's been a while since the last time someone actually gave a shit about Gamestop.
thread title is kind of misleading, tbh It's not a refund, it's just a $59.99 trade credit on select games if they're traded in within 48 hours of release day. This only applies to select games, with the first being Days Gone. It also only applies to standard copies of the game, any special editions aren't eligible.
Still don't offer nearly as much trade-in value as GameXchange. They've been making a killing ever since they moved in to replace Hastings after it went bankrupt. Supposedly the one here is one of the top 5 most profitable in the country. And if Gamestop goes bankrupt, they'll have ZERO competition.
Besides the refunding thing does days gone look any good I'm thinking of getting it
Well, I would not expect any different. Almost every sort of retail shop is reluctant to hand out hard cash.
if you have a the item + receipt and the item/store has a return policy, most places here readily give you your money back in whatever form you paid. you often dont even need the receipt if you paid with card.
That is neat, I do not think that it is that common here, especially regarding games. Only if the game had a massive defect.
kind of wish that wasn't the case, it informs many people's opinions here in my country (wrongfully) so i always have to fight them about whether or not they legible for a return
What you talking about, 2008 was just yesterday
I can't imagine this policy will cover big AAA games like Call of Duty. When I worked at Gamestop we had a number of people who would pre-order the big Call of Duty and Battlefield games and then trade them for the $25-30 within the first couple of days and shout about how they were never buying another Call of Duty game. They'd be the first in line when the next one was up for pre-order.
Literally every time I walk into a Gamestop or EB Games, it's not only totally empty, but 90% of the store is just merch. Oh God, there's so much fucking merch that it takes up entire walls and it's not enough space, so the merch starts coming out into the floor. As if the whole wall of Pop figures wasn't enough. It's such a fucking mess, but I mean, who's gonna buy shit like those Game of Thrones dragon eggs or that Harry Potter motion control remote for like $100 a piece? Everything's ridiculously overpriced and I haven't even gotten into all the intrusive special offers the employees are forced to tell you about. It's a shame. Gaming deserves better than just one famous game store that goes out of its way to fuck gamers out of their money.
