https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-1eHnflT44 I mentioned in my previous thread I was getting back into making videos, and here's what I came up with Feel free to critique, I'm still trash at this so anything'll help
I like your voice
Oh man, I forgot to subscribe to you last time even though I really liked your last video as well. Rectified.
I played Neotokyo for maybe a couple hours when it came out... I've listened to the soundtrack a tonne. Tin Soldiers is legit some of the best DnB out there.
Word, most of the album is legendary considering it's just a mod of all things. Incredible.
I still played NT up til a couple years ago. I find it crazy that it has such good music, but basically none of it is used in-game. I do miss the heyday of source-mods - this, dystopia, empires, eternal silence, and those are just the ones you can grab off steam. There really is something so much more pure about them that's lost on everything getting released these days.
Tin Soldiers starts at 6:34 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=408tWOubRDM
I always felt night vision was the worst implemented mode, partly because many of the maps were too bright for it to make any difference. There was a mod back in 2016 that wanted to Revamp Neotokyo to help revive it, and they made sshootable lights to make Recon more useful: https://youtu.be/yBOdqKmT9Gw Unfortunately the guy has been silent for awhile. There is a community update supposedly coming in 2019, and they may tackle this mechanic as well, in addition to adding a Payload styled game mode.
this is some good shit, keep making videos please
several months back every friday night I think people would fill up an entire server, must be a community organisation that happened, not sure if its still going on
I liked how you went into where the devs are now. Shows great respect for the crazy amount of work that went into NT. Great job!
I was literally listening to the soundtrack of this game today. Absolutely legendary album. I love that games concept art and the visual ideas they were going for, one of the more interesting source mods imo, a shame it didnt grow so much.
Yep, still happening! Usually we get around 20-30 people at peak times on a Friday, sometimes I'm Thursdays and Saturdays too, usually around 3-5 EST It's all organized by the Active Neotokyo Players steam group, and they make a Steam announcement to let people know.
I've never played the game and I bought the OST a few years after hearing Annul. Dude did an incredible job for this being his first time with the style.
Next video will be on the adorable platformer, a short hike! which came out in the Humble Monthly, and out on Steam in Summer! Script is half done and footage is all recorded. https://twitter.com/i/status/1110905562126966785 https://store.steampowered.com/app/1055540/A_Short_Hike/ After that will be another essay style video like my one on Roguelikes, this time on Fantasy Consoles! Once again, please give me any criticism that comes to mind, I had a lot of fun making these videos and I think I have a lot to improve on.
I remember way back playing the fuck out of this mod when that stupid eGO clan was a thing. They had a couple bustling Neotokyo servers at the time and shit was mad fun
I fucking love the Neotokyo soundtrack. Ed Harrison put out a new album a few months and it's definitely worth checking out. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mbrJoV9KMsIdd8rwNRSlchDn2NQz4VpfI
Downloaded it as soon as i saw it, not quite as good as the Neotokyo OSTs but more consistent i think
This video made me download NT and I even set an alarm and woke up early (for my absolutely destroyed sleep schedule) in order to play. I think we capped at about 16 simultaneous players (and even that honestly felt like too many for most of the maps). Even with the limited amount of time I had, there are definitely a few glaring issues with balance and certain mechanics. Regardless, it was a lot of fun and I'll probably be returning this Friday as well.
This is the exact purpose I made this video. I'm glad I could convince at least one more person to get back into Neotokyo.
I used to run the Australian servers for this. Helped run a few competitive tournaments. This guy referenced at the end of the video is pushBAK, though I don't know what he does professionally these days I've run into him while play Squad a few times... last online 2 months ago https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/114543/21592ffb-bb22-40ae-b8c0-f8a2802122cd/image.png
Is this game still alive though? This was so fun back in the day. And it had that beloved gits feel and all.
PushBAK is a actually Leri Greer, art director at Weta. I couldnt find any pictures of Lead developer Justin Harvey (Grey) so I used that picture of PushBAK and Gabe because I thought it was funny
I think that at the center of it all is HL2 and the way everythingwas cobbled together. Even the menu sparks something other than nostalgia in me. And the way the game plays with the elements of hl2, while a bit odd in comparison to other games, is still refreshing.
For those interested, most of the content for Neotokyo is on the Gmod workshop. The maps are awesome and I love the realistic cyberpunk aesthetic.
I was obsessed with this mod for years before it came out - everybody thought it was vapourware at one point because it was in development for so long. It was the damn soundtrack. I must've listened to the music player on the official website about 1000 times. I was over the moon when it finally released and we got a double CD from Ed Harrison. His music has left a pretty deep mark on my soul - I still have to resist the urge to cry when I listen to 'Out'.
