The man, who was not identified by police, was reportedly carrying two gasoline canisters, two bottles of lighter fluid and two lighters. When a security officer stopped the man and refused to allow the man entry while carrying the cannisters, he turned and gasoline reportedly spilled onto the floor, Miller said. The security officer informed NYPD counterterrorism officers stationed outside the church, who quickly caught up with the man and questioned him. "His answers were inconsistently and evasive although he remained conversational with them and cooperative," Miller said.  In speaking to the NYPD officers, the suspect allegedly claimed he was attempting to cut through the cathedral via its 5th Avenue entrance in order to get to Madison Avenue as his car had run out of gas. Miller said officers inspected the car and discovered it was not out of gas and then took the suspect into custody. The individual was then taken to the Midtown North police station.
What the fuck Notre Dame wasn't even a terrorist attack, why are you trying to replicate it
Eric Andres pranks are getting a bit out there.
Some right wing and other insane places have spun the accident as some good thing, which probably inspired this guy somehow. Could still be plenty of other reasons, but hard to say without more info on the person.
that's gonna be a big yikes for me, jim
I really hope nothing happens this Easter Sunday, anywhere in the world.
What a shitty terrorist.
attempted to enter the church while carrying containers of gas. suspect allegedly claimed he was attempting to cut through the cathedral via its 5th Avenue entrance in order to get to Madison Avenue as his car had run out of gas. 400 IQ power move
Probably wants people to blame it on Muslims and add fuel to the idea that Notre Dame was also done purposely by Muslims.
where do you even get such a bizarre 400iq conspiracy theory like this?
Anything bad happens to anything related to Christianity or the west = "I bet the muslims did this"
i seriously doubt that the guy in this article went to burn down a church in a false flag attack to get people to go after muslims
Doesn't seem that out there to me.
have you ever seen a muslim blow up a mosque in a false flag attack to get muslims to attack christians
Not specifically, but people do fabricate hate crimes sometimes.
to the extent that we should be immediately skeptical of suspected hate crimes?
holy shit they actually did it https://twitter.com/NYPDCT/status/1117852001885392898 https://twitter.com/NYPDCT/status/1117874485300842497
And what makes you assume this is a hate crime?
I've not seen any word that this many is actually a Christian. Or even specifically Catholic, since some Americans erroneously think that's a separate thing.
To be fair, the Muslim world doesn't need false flag attacks to give Muslims a reason to be sore with Christians. I will say, though, we don't know the ethnicity, religion, or politics of Mr. Gascan Genius, so any suppositions about his motives probably say more about the supposer than the actual suspect.
well i would reckon that a hate crime is far more likely than a false flag hate crime. for the simple reason that we have many documented cases of the former and relatively few cases of the latter
To be fair, that's virtually the state pass time for citizens here in New Jersey
When people at this very moment in france, europe, and the US are saying that the Notre Dame fire was a terrorist attack and this is either the "End of the west" according to some, or the beginning of a western revolution, I have no fucking idea why you find it so hard to believe that people would think like this and act on this shit.
come on lol, i'm not so stupid as to fall for the idea that a likely scenario is a christian fundamentalist trying to burn down a church in order to get people riled up against muslims it's grasping at straws and the person who posted the theory very much gives off "i didnt read the article" vibe
lol come on I can point to at least a handful of prominent right wing voices like Dennis Prager who have all said on record in the last few days this was likely a muslim attack against the church and the west. There's enough idiots around the world who believe in complete nonsense for it to be entirely possible this was something like that. Anti Muslim sentiment is rife around the west, and you yourself seem to hold a bias against them as a generalized group based on some of your earlier statements, so it's entirely possible you're downplaying this.
you know there was a post in another thread debunking some news recently about terror attacks against churches. in those articles it was being implied through statistics and select coverage that there was a massive conspiracy to burn down churches throughout france and vanadalize them. it was debunked pretty hard why are you so pissed off with my skepticism on this? is it unreasonable to think that a guy who tried to burn down a church might not have been plotting something against muslims? there was a huge terrorist attack against muslims a few weeks ago in new zealand. if he were islamophobic don't you think that a more likely scenario would be him going to burn down a mosque instead of a church?
I'm hardly pissed off I'm stating it's a possibility in our current environment, and you haven't really explained how that's not possible.
He's not saying it's impossible. He's saying that it's very improbable. There's a huge difference.
In our current political environment where things like Q anon are "true" for millions of people, I really have trouble saying it's "very improbable".
occams razor i mean did you read the article? (i know you didn't but i want to rub it in) it mentions nothing about islam, and the guy brought nothing along that would give people an idea to believe it was a muslim terror attack. wouldn't he have left something around or made some kind of message to imply or state that some muslim did it? in what universe (after reading the article, i actually want you to do it this time) would this guy have planned out this attack so that the intention is to generate anger towards muslims, and actually made it obvious given his actions and the like?
