Remember when Valve time was perceived as a heartwarming defect of an otherwise brilliant pioneer company? That opinion gradually changed over the course of 12 years.
oh shit i was actually waiting for this
That made me unreasonably angry. Why does valve think they are so special that no rules ever apply to them?! Its not like adult swim is even that restrictive in their content, if anything they give weird shit chances all the time and are super lenient. Why cant the “professionals” at valve actually fucking do something and do it the way these guys need, they are the tv execs, they know what they need.
"Now that isn't to say Valve didn't have plans or didn't like this idea"
Yeah, just a shame they were too up their own fucking ass to actually give a shit. This video just reinforces what we all already know: Valve has become a big fucking mess, a lot of it due to their flat management and Gabe just not giving a shit.
Valve at this point is a headless chicken running around in circles. The flat management structure only worked when their head, GabeN, was heavily involved in the company. Now that he resigns himself to his office and plays video games all day, the company has spiraled downhill. And because of his simultaneous refusal to retire and hand over the CEO reigns to another person, we can safely lay the blame for the current state of the company on him more than anyone else.
Fuck Gabe Newell man.
at this point cancelling / abandoning everything is just disrespectful to the fans
With a Cloverfield tie-in.
Hearing about all these cancelled Valve projects is just frustrating
at this point I don't care what they're working on, I just want them to release stuff again
Aw, shucks. Tf2's SFM videos (both Valve and community made) are really fun to watch.
No idea, why, but TF2's characters feel unique and so enjoyable to me. Feels like Valve was spot-on with creating those characters.
Turning Team Fortress 2 into a franchise over merely a videogame with associated comics would have been amazing and bring lots of newblood in the game.
TF2 deserves it to be honest, it is an incredible game that has been mistreated pretty badly for literally no reason.
TF2 is literally the only multiplayer FPS that I enjoyed thus far in my gaming career. Primarily because it has a little something for everyone and allows people to find their optimal playstyle without even having to be a particularly good DMer.
If we want potential like this, something big needs to change with Valve. Gabe needs to be replaced by a CEO who pushes for more action, flat management needs to be augmented with some basic hierarchy, and perhaps some sort of shock should be delivered to their profits, be it Steam vs. Epic or their bets on VR taking off collapsing.
Not a good thing, surely, and anything that happens would probably hurt the careers of a few guys, but Valve can only go on like this for so long before something tips over, surely.
Simply untrue. They extremely political, they are extremely insular and clubby, and they are extremely obsessed with cost.
Indeed. No other FPS offers the diversity of play styles that TF2 has - and with just nine playable classes to boot. Overwatch has over three times as many playable characters, and literally none of them come close to the mechanical complexity of TF2's worst classes like Pyro. And the game is simultaneously impossible to enjoy without a group of friends communicating over voice chat.
