• Not expected FPS in gmod with good PC, how?

Hello, i am wondering why i am not getting the expected fps i want. So if i join some normal servers i sometimes just don't get 60 FPS. I have multicore rendering on. My specs: GPU: RTX 2070 OC CPU: i7 - 8700K @ 3.70GHZ RAM: 16gb Ram DDR4 2133 mhz So how is this possible? I hope you can help me but please don't answer with "it's gmod" or "because of servers have so many addons". Many youtubers can play with 60fps so why can't i?
Probably should stop playing on the millionth decompile of a decompile of rp_downtown.
Garry's Mod is a brutal single-core p00s1 destroyer. And it's not your GPU lagging out. What OS? Have you monitored your CPU/GPU usage/temperatures when playing?
I would a. Maybe try to use the 64bit version of gmod it’s in the beta section of preferences when you right click gmod in the steam library you could try and follow this guide for better FPS https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/gmod/comments/7o0ngu/how_to_boost_fps_in_garrys_mod/
most servers still use 32 bit, so when you run the 64 gmod you cant join those. as long as not every server runs on 64 bit as well, using 64 bit gmod is only helpfull in singleplayer tbh
Yes. 8% CPU, 40% RAM, 2% Disk, 5% GPU.
You can't use servers for testing performance in Gmod xD That is up to the connection between the server and your computer. Like if you are on your own local server, the ping is always 1 or 0 if the server is running on your computer locally. You are then the server and the client. When you connect to a global server, you are only the client, and you have to wait for the server to send you e.g. positions of entites in the game, which lowers the framerate...
..he is talking about FPS, not ping...FPS is not affected by server ping AT ALL
Seems like he thinks it is pure FPS, but it is ping yes. Ping affects FPS. Frames Per Second. It makes the serverside entites update slower for the client, causing lower FPS on the serverside entites.
...no..that is not causing low fps...
Call it network lag; sure. That is the correct name. If this guy is getting below 60 FPS on a global server with RTX 2070 OC, then it can't be the GPU haha:p Like It is Garry's Mod from 2006 not Crysis... 8% CPU, 40% RAM, 2% Disk, 5% GPU explains itself! It is a server problem or the game engine, not his rig...
try throwing +gmod_mcore_test 1 +mat_queue_mode -1 +cl_threaded_bone_setup 1 in your launch options
to be honest, ive seen hardware being the problem ESPECIALLY because its new. think about games that cant run at all because the super new hardware. A friend of mine couldnt use his 1080 TI in gmod, because gmod was so unchalleging for the card that it stayd in idle, meaning it made really low fps, and it didnt clock faster. And ive seen other systems with benchmarks actually performing BETTER sometimes with older hardware, and worse with better hardware. So just simply saying "the hardware definetly cant be the problem" is a bit short thought
Haha, I thought about that also... Yeah, that is exactly why I didn't write "the hardware definetly cant be the problem" and wrote It is a server problem or the game engine, not his rig... ;) It could be that the game is porly optimized for new technology, and not just the game engine of course, not taking advantage of the GPU. I know for a fact that software is often the cause of problems; not the hardware. It is often up to the algorithms used. But I don't think it matters if the card stays "idle"? Have you seen the Euclideon point data system for mapping large areas with lasers? Everything is instant and no lag... Dosen't even use the GPU. That is unlimited details they use. Their own software with "atoms" instead of polygons. No limits. Other competitors have not yet achived this. That is all software.
Well that's really interesting. Never knew that new hardware can cause problems. My card is also definitely not broken because i can play battlefield V with RTX and ultra graphics without any problems at more than 60 FPS. I really hope that gmod will get more optimized. Because more and more people are getting newer hardware.
battlefield 5 is super new. perfectly (well, its EA so kinda) optimized for these cards. GMOD is build on an super old source engine. i mean it can run on new hardware, but bad performance should be expected nontherless
