https://www.topic.com/the-fault-in-their-stars?utm_source=pocket-newtab This showed up in my Firefox homepage, for some reason. Just reading it is making me lose brain cells.
My good friend's girlfriend is an astrologist and into all this weird shit and I hate it.
The next generation of astrologers is self-taught Implying that there are institutions that teach astrology proper and it's not completely full of shit to begin with?
Most people don't actually believe it, it's just that tarot and related shit is fun. Reading tarot from your friends and having barely serious banter about star signs is infinitely less harmful than most major belief systems.
Replacing religion with... religion. Okay?
I looked at the stars for guidance and the stars told me that I gonna be fucking delusional. I decided then to only look at the future with practicality, as I now believe there is no fate but what we make for ourselves (I get my worldviews from action movies fyi), and now I ain't fuckin nuts as a result. This is my proof that astrology is bad at telling the future. Btw you can buy this open-source dissertation for $5, hmu.
I got my friend to do my Tarot card reading and it was genuinely quite fun and amusing, but because she believes it, it is a bit more silly. There's no harm in doing it for amusement, but a lot of people take it seriously.
I'd prefer people stop acting in bad faith and believing in fiction to substitute realizing the responsibility of their actions and decisions. Baby steps though, I guess. I'm not talking about those who just do it for fun, btw. That's completely okay. I'm talking about the disturbingly large amount of people who genuinely believe in astrology and cosmos interpretation.
I mean, it's fun to look into but nothing else. If anything the memes are funny.
Yeah this is annoyingly becoming more common it seems. Fun fact: The bible actually condemns superstition: "Have nothing to do with profane myths and old wives’ tales. Train yourself in godliness," - Timothy 4:7 "Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God." - Collosians 2:18 (Proto-materialism) "Learn not the way of the nations, nor be dismayed at the signs of the heavens because the nations are dismayed at them" - Jeremiah 10:2 "Stand fast in your enchantments and your many sorceries, with which you have labored from your youth; perhaps you may be able to succeed; perhaps you may inspire terror. You are wearied with your many counsels; let them stand forth and save you, those who divide the heavens, who gaze at the stars, who at the new moons make known what shall come upon you. Behold, they are like stubble; the fire consumes them; they cannot deliver themselves from the power of the flame." - Isaiah 47:12 It's no surprise that, without the pressure of the church, a disparate many strange religions are cropping up.
astrology is even more absurd and retarded than written religion
Tarot isn't even really a problem so long as you don't take it as something stupid like predicting the future. As a tool of introspection it's not a bad thing at all since it's just a tool used to make you examine your life.
I am sensing a lot of negative energy in this thread. I hope you all focus your signs and look within your chra'ka empoet'E Also consider spreading some energy crystals on your desk or even front wheel airbag : )
That thread title is such a Sagittarius thing to say.
I love it, all my friends are heathens it's beautiful.
The only good thing to ever come out of astrology: https://www.theonion.com/c/horoscopes
The diamonds you gave me to eat didn't work I want my diamonds back
I like the artwork and aesthetic around astrology but lol @ thinking it affects a fucking thing
Astrology is complete and total bullshit. It's absolutely maddening that people give any sort of stock in it, I had an ex confess to me that she checked my star sign for "compatibility" before dating me, and that if i wasn't "compatible" she wouldn't have dated me in the first place. Fucking real nice astrology there. Everyone with half a brain knows that Chinese Zodiac is the only real fortune-telling method.
My old co-driver subscribed to some kind of astrology shit, on some level anyway. I was respectful if FRANK about my stance that it's nonsense, and any accuracy one might detect in it is a confirmation bias to ignore scads of counterexamples. I guess the good thing is, at least this sort of thing isn't tied to some brutal dogma, it's just dumb. The other day my father in law used our visit as an opportunity to check out this experimental in-progress green-as-fuck city called an "arcology" called Arcosanti. Basically a geometrically weird series of concrete-cast buildings where a hundred people live trying to build the city of tomorrow in an Arizona backwood. It was some of the most hippy shot I've ever seen, with our tour guide this sweaty surfer-looking kid with a bandana and filthy clothes ripped to shit, which I'm surprised were earth toned and not tie dye. I asked a question about the theme of circles cut out of every building for windows and lighting and whether it was some kind of passive cooling feature. He didn't know. But then he said, "But our founder was into geometry, and y'know, it could be like how circles are intrinsically masculine and squares are feminine. That kinda thing..." I answer: "If you say so..." Because honestly, what do you even say to that statement? In what sense is femininity square shaped? That's not even a phallic symbol kind of concept, that's just bizarre and makes me think about that spirit science YouTube nonsense about the Moon being fake.
I have a lot of thought on faith, superstition and all that. I dated a girl who was pretty superstitious, into magic, crystal healing, tarot, and astrology. To be honest, it benefited her greatly in life. She was always super confident in her decisions, and had a very positive attitude. She would “cast spells” “use stones” to help her through life and I truly believe they did, because they gave her such a positive mindset. I’m honestly jealous that’s a I just can’t believe in bullshit. I’ve learned how to be positive by putting faith in my self and my relationships with others. But not in the way those with faith in the supernatural tend to be. I truly think that pure rationality is a detriment to people’s minds. It so easily leads to Nihilism. Unfortunately some of us are just unable to not analyze, and break shit down. I guess we’re here to help those who are oppressed by religious belief systems.
Squares seem more masculine and circles feminine to me. Men have harder angles to their body due to lower body fat whereas women have more curvy bodies. Also, circles are close to an oval which relates to eggs which are definitely a feminine symbol.
If you ever need to have a laugh, just do a quick google search on Astrology and read the first three words on wiki, that's all you need to read to be amused by anyone who believes in it. Astrology is a pseudoscience
Virgo | Aug. 23 to Sept. 22 There will be no changes of note in your life this week, which is surprising considering how easy it should be to get a bear trap off your head these days. I mean I can testify that that's 110% accurate for me. Though the implication that the bear trap is interfering with my life or something is massively overblown...
I read about this one religion thing where people would purposfly perform rituals to enter a different state of mind or do a "spell" to trick themselves into thinking a certain way. Deep down they know it's fake but they've conditioned themselves enough that the "spells" or "rituals" actually helps their though process. Forgot what it was called though.
Meditation and some aspects of buddhism will probably scratch that itch you have without getting interrupted by logic.
I mean I suppose I use meditation, non-religious prayer, and positive thinking to achieve the same thing. I just think it’s probbaly more effective if you actual believe there is a supernatural power.
You'd be surprised. Not everyone wants to outright say they believe such things. Probably no less than half of my academically educated friends believe in some form of superstition or pseudoscience which is mind boggling.
If it helps them find comfort and they aren't relying on it instead of actual medicine, go for it. Spirituality is a lot more malleable than religion, allowing people to have their little superstitions and whatnot without it preventing them from being themselves or feeling shame (or enforcing said shame on others) while still getting the comfort of belief. I dunno about you, but I've never been called a faggot by a Wiccan protestor but the same can't be said for christians.
Somehow, I get the idea that it's part of the reason for the resurgence. Millenial-zoomer hipsters who don't like their parents religion, yet due to a religious upbringing still have a hole in them that base atheism just can't fill
