Is this the game where the human woman makes out with a dead hedgehog?
If it fixes the sheer amount of glitches and really unpolished expressionless look of all the characters, it could actually be playable. Well, besides the atrocious story obviously. But let's not beat a dead horse. Having played bits of this game, if it wasn't so horrifyingly broken and glitchy, it would've been at least reasonably entertaining to play.
[Reposting my post from the Sonic General Thread, as this does feel appropriate here] Just for clarification for anyone curious, this is actually the SECOND Sonic 06 remake. Both are being developed parallel to each other, and both are done in Unity, no less! The first one is lead by Mefiresu & Gistix, and is simply called right now Sonic 2006 PC: https://youtu.be/yhas85hd5Ow Current Demo link: SONIC THE HEDGEHOG [SAGE 2018 DEMO] | Sonic Fan Games HQ The second one (the one shown here) is lead by ChaosX, and has the project name of P-06: https://youtu.be/VNLvefiZ4rg [Download links in video description] Will certainly be interesting to see how each one evolves in the future.
It's not so much glitchy as it is just broken. Sure there are quite a few places where you'll just phase through walls or turbopads launch you to your doom, but it's surprisingly consistent in that you will ALWAYS phase through that wall or get on the turbopad to your doom.
Oh my GOD it even has the same load times, who asked for this???
OTOH the glitches and bullshit made Greps 06 an absolute classic bingewatch that's still just as funny now as it was when they were actively doing episodes on it.
they had to rename it to Sonic 06 because sonic's necrophilia adventure didn't sit well with the test audience
Gave it a run through, the improvements to silver are really neat. Cant wait to see what they can do with the full version
I like how the wall hopping doesn't look as janky simply because of the use of some animations when Sonic hugs a wall. It's really the little details like that that go a long way. The camera transitions between some parts are still very harsh though. Like a lot of what killed me in Sonic '06 besides the numerous bugs and glitches was just how fucking whiplashing the camera acted at times. If they somehow fixed that while also removing things like "hitting certain boost pads kills momentum because of the scripted animation being slow", then the game might actually be not as shitty to play through. Yeah, people question why you'd want to re-create what is probably one of the worst modern Sonic games, but I find it fascinating that the modding and fangame fanbase for Sonic is so passionate and skilled to even go through with this. I really respect that, and I wish them the best with this.
but y tho
what the fuck?
The big bad of the game stabs Sonic with an elongated finger spike, and he dies. The human princess who looks like a terrifying mannequin knockoff of a Final Fantasy reject, Elise, uses the power of the Chaos Emeralds and a kiss of love for a hedgehog she met a couple days ago that saved her like six times from Eggman while helping her be free and herself, to revive him and turn him Super Sonic. Nevermind that historically Sonic was intended to have a human interest called Madonna back in the conceptual stages of the franchise, to pretty much everyone both in and out of the fandom this one moment signified the deepest, darkest pits of the entire franchise. Boy would some people be depressed to know about worse stuff in the old Archie Comics.
I'm suddenly having a vague flashback of someone redubbing this scene.
Oh god that camera still gives me a migraine and there's still no fluidity to the animation or momentum to any of the movement
Move over sonic standing still on the roof of a cave, we got a new thing to hate
I think I know which one you’re talking about, though the fandub I’m thinking of has Silver say to Elise “Dammit Elise, don’t you know anything about Fairy Tales?!?” That might be a different one than the one your thinking of though.
The wall hoping animations existed in the e3 demo build but come the actual game's release it didn't use them anymore.
i know this is probably from the original but why do all Tails' jumping and combat noises sound like he's having an enema?
Mostly because the actual game's release was churned out due to a deal Sega made with Microsoft for Sonic '06 to be a launch title. After it was designed for Playstation 3 in mind, and after the development team had been split into thirds and the former director Yuji Naka ditched with a small team of his own people. I don't remember exactly why the builds from E3 to launch were so fucked, besides the assumption that with the sudden exclusivity deal fucking up development, the E3 build had been specially designed with improvements - that were not able to be backported to the actual final build over the next few months in trying to even get the game working on the 360 hardware to begin with. And then after the game finally did launch and was actually a million seller despite its poor reputation, Sega didn't even let the devs patch the game or try to make the PS3 port a year later any better; the only "patch" the game ever got was from buying the Very Hard DLC, which snuck some bug fixes in it. For as awful as the story of '06 was, let it be known that the game was not an atrocity by incompetence's sake. They were ambitious as hell, shooting for things like a day & night cycle and fully playable side-characters instead of level/section-specific. The development was so notoriously fucked up from just about every step of the way and especially thanks to the Sega execs being real sons of bitches, that the game was doomed by many things out of its control.
Naw, I think it was a really short, crude one.
Reminder to watch retsupurae's full playthrough of Sonic 06 and watch slowbeef go insane in real time
Well there go my plans to maybe one day play these games
You can't "fix" Sonic 06 without completely revamping the movement physics as far as I'm concerned. It's so stiff and horrible, like somebody dialed in some placeholder movement in two minutes on day one by slightly altering the engine's default movement and nobody ever fixed it.
Me and my friend played Sonic adventure 2 : Battle the other day. Holy shit I forgot how terrible the Sonic games feel. It’s so strange because I’vr Played some fan games that feel infinitely better. Sonic Team what are you doing.
