Is it time to worry yet?
There are court cases from decades ago blocking the Supreme Court from being involved in impeachment but with Bart'o'Kav on the bench he might stand a chance of undoing that.
Apparently the entire spectrum of sizes ranging from "small" to "unlimited" is only 34 million dollars.
its very very very unlikely given that the scotus's ONLY role in impeachment is for the chief justice to conduct the trial in the senate.
I'm not going to defend Trump in the slightest, but I feel this is a very notable misinterpretation.
"Unlimited" is referring to the idea how the investigation had all the resources in the world. AKA, ultimate potential; anything it could have possibly done, it would have.
$34,000,000 is the bill that it ended up costing, a number that makes the right people very angry. Republican voters see it as tax dollars wasted on "nothing," regardless of how willfully they ignore the fact that it was an investigation and not a trial.
Does he understand separation of powers?
It's very scary that a lot of people actually believe all of these lies.
If he sues the legality of it though it would end up at the SCOTUS as a case that they could fundamentally change how the SCOTUS interacts with an impeachment proceeding. They shouldn't but the court is now stacked with extreme Republicans who only care about their side winning.
Antonin Scalia ranted about the gay agenda from the bench
The nominal cost is actually much lower than that. It would have ran less than $20M in expenses if it ran all the way to September of this year.
Also, you're forgetting the money the government collected from Paul Manafort in the process. Unless things changed, the Mueller investigation was actually operating at a surplus with this consideration.
Not the point. Frapple was implying Trump calling $35mil "unlimited money," which is pretty disingenuous.
Like, yeah, he's lying to rile up his user base. What else is new?
The 35 Million has already been recouped in Civil Forfeiture.
No
He came into the presidency expecting to be king, and he's doing his damnedest to make it so
I will say it'd be fucking funny if suddenly GOP and the SC suddenly """""BETRAYED""""" him hard
It has always been my understanding that the impeachment process is not a legal process. And as such, he can't take it to court.
Being a desperate manchild trying to avoid leaving office because he knows he will be criminally liable for crimes Mueller has already identified, he doesn't and won't care and will break the system to save his own spraytanned skin. And Mitch McConnell has been working hard to install lackey judges who'll let him get away with it, regardless of what the Constitution says.
Trump wants the Supreme Court to make the Constitution unconstitutional.
no just the executive unaccountable
What really depresses me is that I grew up mainly in the U.S thinking about how great it is to live in a democracy and figure if it was actually threatened the citizens would have no hesitation in mass civil disobedience or even Louis XVI-ing the fuck out the president for even trying it.
I feel like so far everybody us too distracted, too comfortable to risk fighting for their rights and their freedom.
Unfortunately most people who rail against the government are all bark and no bite. They can't afford to leave their job to go do something, or they truely believe that less government and more private institutions are needed because that works out so well. Go to any gun forum and it will be a lot of grandstanding and saber rattling but in the end, they won't do anything. Self reliance is nice and all, but not everyone can recover from "minor" financial setbacks. System is setup to ensure that you can't save anything, and anything in savings just stagnates. It is the epitome of "Got mine, Fuck you" mentality that we hate here.
And good luck criticizing Trump there. It's amazing the level of thinking required to accept that idiot.
Similar things could be said about democrats, but they will actually get out and march. Just not as forcefully as I wish they could do. They stop targeting smaller fish in the grand scheme and actually do something.
We need a real leader and maybe another economic shakedown. One that will finally rattle wall street's cages real good.
Every time he tweets about the investigation and how much it costs he adds to it. It's over yet it's STILL costing money, apparently
I was worried about this the other day, that for the next two years they'll just try to push everything single thing to the supreme court where they can cancel it for free.
they can't cancel it for free, the Supreme Court literally has no jurisdiction over the impeachment process other than one of em being in congress during the hearing
there's nothing to appeal, there's no jury, it's a clearly defined separation of power
