without major strings attached
Like you're not doing that already, you thick headed dipshit.
lol
muh split
"If our main competitor agreed to permanently operate at a loss, we would let them and even agree to profit from it ourselves."
Does anyone believe him after the last time he said he would be stopping exclusivity?
"Hey we're not adding features intergeral to customer relations because they already exist elsewhere. Valve didn't have that luxury."

"without major strings attached"
>5% revenue cut on Steam for UE games
???
doesn't this basically mean sweeney has admitted that he's using exclusives as a delibrate target against steam?
Sure sure Sweeney. As soon as you start treating your fortnite team like human beings again.
-cricket chirping intensifies-
He needs to put up or shut up with that fucking pro dev stance. He’s full of shit until he practices what he preaches.
I'd say it's a form of blackmail.
Wouldn't Valve doing this be a good thing for developers in general though, regardless of whether or not this is Tim Sweeney bait?
Right up until Steam operates at a loss and dies because the 12% cut is completely unsustainable and Epic only does it because they're attempting to basically bribe their way into the market and will stop offering this overly generous deal once their Fortnite money fountain starts drying up.
I highly doubt Valve would be operating at a loss at that rate.
The problem with Epic's cut balance is that they shift the lost profits from that cut balance onto the consumer with hidden-until-it's-too-late costs. If you live outside the US then get fucked! you're paying between 2% and 20% more, and have to deal with credit card processing fees ontop of that because fuck you for living in a developing country! But pwease help da poow devs, whom we won't actually give any *extra* money for their effort when it doesn't suit our fucking blackmailing methods.

And because they run such a barebones, featureless store with what would appear to be a total skeleton crew keeping it functioning. Valve's cut is basically their operating costs for keeping Steam running and turning some profit.
And their Fortnite devs are forced to work 100 hour weeks or else be fired. No wonder they have so much cash for exclusives.
The 88/12 cut Epic takes is because they avoid using specific banks and online money sites that ask for larger cuts, making impossible to operate in some countries. Right now if you use the EGS in some Asian countries there's only two games available, and one of them is Fortnite.
They must be paying Chinese minimum wage to their developers for these 100 hours week. That way they have max profits
imagine having a fucking shopping cart (something most free and paid-for out of box online store programs will enable you to set up with a simple code package) on your roadmap instead of actually available in your online store when you run a multimillion company that's intended to compete with the biggest fucking online digital distribution marketplace for games. like what a fucking joke.

Yeah Tim you're clearly not a PC gamer otherwise you'd know that this is literally impossible and what you're doing contributes to it not being possible

If with 12% they net only 5% with a fucking piece of shit, imagine if people started using their store? Someone has mentioned that Steam profits only 8% of their 30% cut because they actually have to pay for services and developers, things that Epic can't even do right.

Honestly, why does Tim Sweeny have such a hate-boner towards Valve and Steam?
As he constantly spouts that Valve's 30% cut is a fucking scourge on Game Devs.
Tim Sweeny is a delusional sack of shit regardless, as Epic's current 12% cut isn't sustainable.

I'd like to see Valve do it. 30% is bullshit
Would you give up fair prices and a decent chunk of Steam's features for better revenue for publishers? I'd rather not since publishers always fuck us up.
This whole thing just makes it sound more and more that Tim Sweeney just has a personal vendetta against Valve for some reason and is using his company trying to bring them down.
Seems futile though, even with how much Fortnite makes.
Is there any legit source for claiming a 12% cut is unsustainable? This should be good news to every one, a 30% cut is way too high and it's great that Steam finally has real competition
Valve has to put up with paymemt fees to be able to provide fair regional pricing. They also have a lot of infrastructure costs because of Steam's features. They also have to pay their employees (ahem, no 100 hour week for developers because they are sane enough to know this is stupidly bad).
Stfu Tim Sweeney. You didn't realise you make everyone life worse because your big ego.
But the cut was 30% already before they started doing any regional pricing? This excuse doesn't make sense. And Valve makes billions a year with less than 400 employees, paying them is far from a problem
