The North American hurricane season doesn't begin till June. This is the southwest Indian ocean season which ends April 39 and has been record breaking, with 15 names storms, 10 of which were intense tropical cyclones. The average is like, 4 iirc.

Unfortunately stories like this that occur in third world countries rarely get much airtime. It's why I sometimes like VICE if they do a story on something like how people are doing in Syria, etc., as a lot of the world don't have any interest when poorer, especially minority countries are affected by tragedy.

Because the "first world" is incredibly shitty? Entire foundation is essentially built on being the center of the world, so anything catastrophic that happens outside of Europe/North America is entirely ignored by the media(with exceptions for honourary westerners Japan+Korea).

Yeah, Cyclone Idai hit southern Mozambique about a month ago and killed 1000+ people.
