• Windows explorer locking up photo files.

Hi, would anyone know what could be causing this issue? Every time I try to delete a picture on my computer I get an error saying the file is open in windows explorer, if I restart it and try again it works for a while and then same happens. As far as I can remember this started when I installed irfanview (Because the photos app on my PC has a memory leak, opening up a 5mb photo would use up hundred of megabytes to gigabytes of ram after a while, constantly going up) I uninstalled it since and noticed this issue. If I try cutting and pasting a lot of folders all but a few would work and the rest would lock up the same way. I figured this is down to thumbnails? Is there a way to fix it aside from disabling them entirely or reinstalling windows? It's very frustrating especially since I tend to work with photo files quite a lot and I can't just overwrite files without restarting explorer, deleting it and saving again. I'm using w10.
Open View and mouse over the "Extra large icons" options until all thumbnails show up. After that you should be able to move as you wish. It's a bit inconvenient but I have that issue occasionally with some files on a network drive (not necessarily pictures). Never looked for a proper solution since as far as I knew it could be related to some other machine locking the files. Just to be clear, I am also using Irfanview, so it's likely an issue with that.
that is a legitmate reason applications can change the registry of how the windows shell handles files in the explorer, from thumbnails to the context menu etc. infranview could be overriding windows' default thumbnailer for specific image filetypes, which might be subpar to the native one. I'm not an infranview user, so I do not know the application's technical side
