Top 10 global opening weekends. Almost as if this was planned since you would literally have to wipe out 50% of Endgame's gross to restore balance to the list https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/165/c40a35ff-fa13-4c1d-a29b-2f85ffed5740/image.png
Does this beat GTA V?
I have a film in the works where its The Good The Bad and The Ugly but at the end Blondie forgets the name of the grave and it becomes an experimental long take with a single shot of the cemetery and Tuco and Blondie are actually digging up every grave in the cemetery and they're not allowed to leave the set until they find the right grave that I hid their paycheck in. It's taking a while because one of the actors fell asleep 3 weeks ago and hasn't gotten up. Regardless, once it comes out I'm gonna make Endgame look like Food Fight.
I like how the only record not held by a disney they broke was held by Despicable Me 3.
Really hoping Avatar is taken down, only so we can see James Cameron's meltdown or dismissive congratulations. And when Avatar 2 opens and fails to capture it's predecessor's massive success. I'm really invested in the mental torture of this legendary filmmaker, but he deserves to have his ego lowered a bit.
Based on worldwide figures Endgame's opening weekend earned more than the entire run of any DCEU movie, or the entire run of any movie ever released by Sony or Paramount Only 17 movies have ever earned more in their entire run than Endgame did in its opening weekend (not adjusted for inflation) Disney has had the highest-grossing movie of the year in 8 years of this decade The film has already made back its budget - even Infinity War took 10 days to do this
It's worth noting that this is probably not adjusted for inflation. If you adjust the highest grossing movies of all time based on inflation then Gone With the Wind still makes number one.
Yep, although even adjusted for inflation, Endgame is almost certainly on course to break into the top ten https://i.imgur.com/a33hdjH.png
Wonder how much $$$ was made just in popcorn and drink sales alone, considering its about $20 for a small popcorn and drink lol
I still can't believe Avatar is up that high
if only people would do this to movies that deserve more recognition instead of generic superhero flicks.
Yep. It's certainly up there. It deserves to be up there too. My workplace reported that since released we've roughly grossed $100,000 on just the film alone. Doesn't include any food or drink. The cinema company I work for broke 2 records nationally. Highest grossing film on a Public Holiday(Anzac on the 24th) and we also beat The Force Awakens. We're sitting at 1.79M a national average which seems small but this was reported on the 26th and this is in NZ. 1.79M is a huge number.
I went to see Shazam last night for about 10 euros. I got a bottle of Coke and a big portion of nachos and it cost almost as much. I always forget how the jokes about cinema snacks aren't jokes.
I am probably going to be one of the film's biggest critics (boy I did not like it), but this just seems unnecessarily whiny. Let people spend their money how they want - some people go to the cinema for entertainment, you know. Considering how popular this entire series / universe is, it appears that it deserves all the recognition it gets.
Guy I know works at the local cinema and has been on 10 hour shifts since the film came out
It opened here at the 23rd and the cinema part of the mall here actually stayed opened for 24 hours (normally closes at last full show on the 9-10PM showing). It was constantly full with people lining up whenever the next showing starts. It also wasn't playing any other movie, just Endgame.
By genre standards, End Game is not some generic super hero flick. Objectively it can't be argued that this is an event film too that's been a decade in the making which I'm sure is going to help draw in the audience. You seem dismissive of the genre overall though, but that's just my impression. You want generic super hero flick, look at the new Hellboy.
This [The new film] Hellboy domestically in 17 days ($21,533,833) hasn't made what the first Hellboy made its first weekend ($23,172,440)
Good time to drop my favourite fun fact: in the UK at least, it's a pretty common belief that you can't bring outside food and drink into the cinema and people will very often 'sneak it in' by hiding it in a bag or doing some ninja shit. In reality this isn't true, and all of the big cinema chains have publicly stated it's okay to bring cold food and drinks in from outside (tweets from Vue, Odeon, and Cineworld). I guess some indie cinemas might ban it but none of the big ones. So if you live elsewhere it's worth googling to check this, cus now I get to enjoy the fact that probably millions of people are regularly going full Splinter Cell with their M&Ms when they could just openly carry them in with no problem.
Yeah nah Event Cinemas straight up bans this. Hoyts also bans and so does Reddings. NZ cinemas REALLY want you to buy shit from them.
Yeah I learnt that recently, really kills the hype of trying to smuggle a couple of maltesers Easter eggs if you're just allowed to bring it in
The avengers series itself has been anything but generic. Formuliac wasn't even a thing with this particular series until the last half hour of endgame. Also you're gonna need to define deserve cause outside of A24, there ain't much out there that isn't get hit up by fans or being signal boosted by channels like rlm and others.
Never understood this, Cameron seems like an alright guy and uses a lot of the money he makes for private deep-sea exploration.
The entry for egotistical fuckstick in the Oxford has Cameron's portrait next to it.
one could say they were all snapped.
I won't lie, I'm a bit of a fan of the MCU movies, but this was probably the most entertaining movie I've seen in years. Period. After all this time, seeing these characters that we've become attached to and what happens to them is nothing short of powerful. There was not a dry eye in the house by the end of the film.
I don't understand why you'd even want to bring or buy snack food to eat at the theater. It's just fucking gross, sticky, you can't even see what you eat, most of the time you'll just annoy the fuck out of everyone by making noise, not to mention how much of a gooey mess some theaters and seats are because of this shitty habit. Then again I just feel dirty and disgusted whenever I eat processed candy so that may explain why I'm so baffled that people like to stuff their face rather than appreciate the movie on its own.
I have to be honest by saying I only went to see it because I enjoyed Infinity Wars, I really didn't like End Game at all.
dude at the time of release people thought it was some other world experience, like some xen movement. on the small screen it was awful
The theatre I went to actually did stop a couple of guys in front of me from taking Pringles bought elsewhere Dodged a bullet! If they're like me, they'd finish them before the movie started. Fucking 20 minutes of ads WOW.
