https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/04/29/president-trump-has-made-more-than-false-or-misleading-claims/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.22ae108d739d It took President Trump 601 days to top 5,000 false and misleading claims in The Fact Checker’s database, an average of eight claims a day. But on April 26, just 226 days later, the president crossed the 10,000 mark — an average of nearly 23 claims a day in this seven-month period, which included the many rallies he held before the midterm elections, the partial government shutdown over his promised border wall and the release of the special counsel’s report on Russian interference in the presidential election. This milestone appeared unlikely when The Fact Checker first started this project during his first 100 days. In the first 100 days, Trump averaged less than five claims a day, which would have added up to about 7,000 claims in a four-year presidential term. But the tsunami of untruths just keeps looming larger and larger. The president’s constant Twitter barrage also adds to his totals. All told, the president racked up 171 false or misleading claims in just three days, April 25-27. That’s more than he made in any single month in the first five months of his presidency.

This got posted by some local news outlets on Facebook here in Canada. The comments were mostly geared towards comparing this to Justin Trudeau but shockingly there were even more comments from baby boomers along the lines of "fake news" and them trying to desperately prove that this story itself is false. What the fuck is wrong with people that they look at Trump and his immigrant tent cities and all the horrible shit he's done, and they just seem to be ok with it?

Were reaxhing the point where truth is entirely irrrelevant in these peoples heads
No? Why the fuck do so many people believe this?
Because they're literally too stupid to read past the headlines. My country, your country, America, it doesn't matter. All people are seemingly capable of being totally fucking stupid.
Exactly. A similar, funnier but also sadder thing happened when they put out a survey about these train tracks that cut our city in half and are responsible for people being late to work and even ambulances being held up from getting to our local hospital. In the comments of the article for the survey, a bunch of boomers who work for CN or used to work for CN were mocking people with comments like "lol look at all the liberal tears about the trains", "try getting up earlier [to beat the trains]" (which is stupid advice tbh), etc. I was appalled. It wasn't a political issue at all but these fucking boomers were turning it into one. The fact is that CN has an alternate rail route they can take that doesn't cut our city in half but they don't care and continue to use the one that does. Their trains often take 25 minutes to pass (which is well past what should be legally allowed) and come with 200+ cars attached. It's ridiculous.
So they have something to feel right about to stave off their own creeping self-doubt. They need something to fight against. It's low-level bullying to compensate for deficiencies under the surface, basically.
