Woodstock 50 Has Been Cancelled | Billboard Woodstock 50 has been cancelled. Earlier today officials with Dentsu Aegis Network, which is funding the festival, released the following statement toBillboard: “It’s a dream for agencies to work with iconic brands and to be associated with meaningful movements. We have a strong history of producing experiences that bring people together around common interests and causes which is why we chose to be a part of the Woodstock 50th Anniversary Festival.  But despite our tremendous investment of time, effort and commitment, we don’t believe the production of the festival can be executed as an event worthy of the Woodstock Brand name while also ensuring the health and safety of the artists, partners and attendees."
Not surprising. Woodstock was a once in a lifetime thing and any attempt to recreate it is doomed to fail.

'We aren't going to make more money than we're spending'
Good on them for not going through and pulling another Fyre Festival, at least
There are large camping music festivals all over the world, every year, filled with people holding woodstock-esque mentalities. Some of them become overly commercialized, but not all of them.
oof https://www.zippo.com/collections/lighters/products/white-matte-woodstock-50
Buy them while they’re cheap, those might be worth money some day
I would do that myself but I just bought 5 zippos estate sale the other day
we don’t believe the production of the festival can be executed as an event worthy of the Woodstock Brand name Nothing sounds more hippy than "brand name" If that's their primary concern oo boy the spirit of the show and mouvement died a long time ago (and ofc it did).

Except we already had Woodstock '94 and '99? There's really nothing preventing this from happening since similar festivals happen every year all around the globe. The 90s attempts were admittedly organizational shitshows so I had little faith in this succeeding either, but in theory it should be perfectly doable.
https://consequenceofsound.net/2019/04/woodstock-co-founder-festival-not-canceled/ Now, though, Woodstock co-founder Michael Lang is pushing back. In a statement given to the New York Times, Lang said Dentsu Aegis Network “[does] not have the right to unilaterally cancel the festival.” He added that Dentsu’s announcement caught him by surprise. hmm interesting
I don't think he means that a festival that happens to be called Woodstock can't happen again, just that The Woodstock, with its cultural relevance and impact, isn't something you can manufacture
Oh god dammit you're right, I'm a dumbass. This is what I get trying to read anything in the morning while still half asleep. Yeah obviously that's true and I think that may be the biggest sticking point with this whole thing actually - the Woodstock name was basically tarnished with the unsuccessful and profit motivated recreations of the 90s so even the best salesman probably couldn't sell investors a false promise of another musical era defining moment like the original Woodstock. Nobody's stupid enough to fall for that.
Woodstock has had a yearly festival(Mountain Jam)that have been awesome and successful. I don’t know they’d have issues having under the “Woodstock Festival” brand. Ofcourse it will never be like the original, trying recreate anything never works.
