Hard to believe a single handheld instrument can make such a range of sounds.
The constant droning sound reminded me a lot of WotLK music, but apparently it might be a related instrument called the nyckelharpa.

I had no idea that this instrument had such a long history. The first video I saw of it I thought that a random avant garde youtuber decided to dick around and create a random instrument by slapping shit on top of a guitar body.
Turns out that the whole guitar body thing goes back a LOT farther.
Sea of Thieves also makes use of the hurdy gurdy, in that it's one of the instruments you can play in the game.

Just to think, a folk metal band that my dorky ass listens to has contributed towards the modern resurgence of this classic instrument that has been through many ups and downs.
