http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/04/indie_game_removed_from_switch_eshop_after_dev_reveals_it_contains_a_hidden_code_editor https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/165/3b3043ef-f481-4bf2-8b9e-1b7cca808807/screen-shot-amir-rajan.original.jpg I deeply regret how this has blown up. A simple toy sandboxed environment has been framed as this massive exploit. And of course it's the community that exploits these things that pushed it up to that level. I'm partly to blame with my sensationalised media posts. I acted alone and stupidly. It was a last second 'spark of inspiration' and I snuck it in assuming that plugging in a USB keyboard and pressing the "~" key wasn't part of the test plan. Having Circle deal with some of this cannon fire is not something I'd ever want. These past three days have been the worst days of my life. And I don't know what to say except I'm sorry, and all I wanted to do was allow kids (and coding adults that have forgotten the joy) to discover what I discovered 25 years ago. The narrative that has played out online is exactly what's wrong with this trashcan fire of a world. Everyone is an armchair expert. Everyone thought the worst. You've seen that I've been called a dick, idiot, and everything in between. Because sensationalised news sells. If the narrative was 'I added a sandbox to A Dark Room that lets you mod the game and provide a medium for kids to code (and technical parents to show their kids what they do),' it would have gone unnoticed. My opinion:Why the fuck are you blaming Nintendo? The dev caused his own death by sneaking the code editor past QA, something that's a big no-no ESPECIALLY when he more than likely saw the fucking TOS.
I mean that's cool as shit and props to him for doing it, but what did he expect to happen by revealing it?
I'm all for Homebrew and hacking devices for modding but i can't support these kinds of purposeful break-ins. I'm under the ideal that it's best we mod fully after the console has run it's course to allow it new life. It is neat at the end of the day that he managed to cram a code editor into the Switch, But i do think the devs should've talked to Nintendo about it and curated it carefully as to benefit the game and not be a potential security hole for the Switch like how Cubic Ninja was accidentally for the 3DS
Properly vetted scripting would be amazing. But it can't be something that isn't .. vetted.
If its truly sandboxed it is completely harmless, but Nintendo has incredibly strict guidelines for releasing on their platform, dude brought this upon himself unfortunately.

Innocuous or not, QA departments, especially Nintendo's, aren't fond of developers trying to sneak random shit into their software completely unaudited. And now the guy's trying to make himself into a misunderstood martyr being assailed by the evil megacorps and the entitled gamers. Fuck this guy, fuck his game, and fuck his stupid idea.
This was a shitty risk-to-reward plan no matter how you framed it. What was he thinking?
See, shit like this is why Nintendo was so locked down to 3rd party stuff to begin with. Keep your mouth shut, dummy, you're going to ruin it for everyone.
Here's a hot cool way to potentially and seriously bypass the Switch's securities! And it's on the E-Shop! … What the fuck? Nintendo! Why are you pulling this? NO!
You can play a less full featured version here for free: http://adarkroom.doublespeakgames.com/ It's good for wasting some time but even with a fuller version I don't see $40 value in it.
How is it an easter egg if you publicly speak about it on social media? You might as well go on top of a skyscraper and shout you intentionally fucked up hard into a megaphone
