They should probably be tested for Hep C as well. This is the most ridiculous reason to get HIV ever. Luckily, it's rare that it kills people in first world countries these days, but the social stigma around the disease is super high so it must be really depressing. Still, who the hell thinks something like this is a good idea?

The blood is the patient's own according to a post up above. It was the reused needles that did it.
