Maybe so, shitty circumstances create shitty people who will do shitty things for money. Still? Fuck 'em both - it's hard to have sympathy for a whore trying to blackmail people with the threat of losing photos of their dying child. I've known people who struggle daily in terms of finances and health but they have always done the right thing in spite of having opportunity/incentive not to do so.
I know it's hard for you to understand but you don't have to try to find/make up a reason for everything a person does.
Sometimes people are just assholes. This is one of those times.
