The app is connected with the integrated joint operations platform (IJOP), a Xinjiang policing program that aggregates people’s data and flags those deemed potentially threatening. IJOP is part of a vast surveillance network currently employed in the restive region that includes frequent checkpoints equipped with face scanners, so-called “convenience” police stations, and surveillance cameras inside homes.
Data collection, including people’s blood type, height and religious practices, has been central to the crackdown, which started in late 2016, the rights group says.
The app targets 36 “person types” to whom officials must pay special attention. The categories include seemingly harmless behaviours such as “does not socialise with neighbours, seldom uses front door”; “suddenly returned to hometown after being away for a long time”; “collected money or materials for mosques with enthusiasm”; and “household uses an abnormal amount of electricity.”
This is the future of authoritarianism. This is George Orwell's nightmare come true.
gotta keep track of those dangerous introverts
and you think america doesnt spy on muslims since 9/11?
What an absurd way to respond to this
I don't recall the US installing security cameras into the homes of Muslims.
So no, I do not think so.
Whataboutism
If they spy on 0.01% of Muslims, your statement is still correct but completely misleading.
If they spy on Muslims who are engaged in suspicious activity, is that a bad thing? No, I think most people would agree that is an acceptable form of surveillance. In fact, we often hear about this post terror attacks that X person was known by the authorities/spy agencies etc etc. They actually don't seem to act on a lot of this data.
What China is doing is imprisoning an entire section of Muslims in one geographical area and using apps to collect mass data on them.
China does more than just spy on their Muslim minority.

I posted this in a thread a while back. Still relevant here.
I know he's just trying to driveby the thread but we literally have conducted that level of surveillance on innocent Muslim Americans post 9/11 and the events hitherto regarding surveillance have practically shaped the defining political characteristic of our time and let's not pretend otherwise. Even mainstream and moderate opinionists see China's surveillance state as a permutation of what many states are already capable of. It's like the other big sword hanging over our head next to climate change.
If China already spies on its own citizens, imagine how bad it is on muslims…
Will this ever have an end?
I've almost never socialised with my neighbours because I'm pretty introverted too, so I think China is a country I should avoid moving to, more so than it already was.
