Pope Francis wasn’t more snip and less snipe out of hairdressers. The Pontiff started his week by addressing 230 hairdressers and beauticians at the Vatican, where he told them to
knock off the gossip chat that’s ubiquitous in beauty parlors.
“Practice your profession in a Christian style, treating customers with kindness and courtesy, and always offering them a good word and encouragement,” his Holiness told members of
Saint Martin de Porres Committee.
The Pope encouraged hairdressers to follow the example of the Peruvian saint for which their cosmetology union is named, according to the Vatican Times. Saint Martin de Porres was
the patron saint of barbers, innkeepers and racial harmony. He was canonized in 1962, more than 300 years after his death.
“He encourages you, above all to practice your profession in a Christian style, treating customers with kindness and courtesy, and always offering them a good word and encouragement,
avoiding giving in to the temptation of gossip that easily creeps into your work environment, that we all know about,” the Pope said.
