Early reports say that 11 people died, firefighters still can't get into the tail.
That is horrifying. Imagine being trapped hundreds if not thousands of feet in the air in a burning metal cage.

That's pretty fucking amazing how it was still flying and able to land with a fire that big, I don't think I've seen any plane survive a firewhile in the air.

Latest information: Total passengers: 78 Dead: 41 Injured: 19
holy shit now 41 dead? what a huge loss of life, thats more than half the passengers. jesus christ
New video which shows that the plane went in flames after it bounced off the ground during emergency landing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAIS3_YqnRI
Absolute miracle they got anybody off that thing with the amount of fire coming off it.
UPDATE: Here is what happened: Just after take off the crew reported that main radio has stopped working. After a few minutes the emergency radio has stopped working as well and the crew decided to land the plane. They were unable to land the plane during the first approach due to high speed. During the second approach all of the avionics stopped working and the crew had to land the plane in manual mode. During the landing plane bounced off the ground and touched the ground with its tail and one of the engines went on fire.
Was actually surprised to see that this is a pretty new type of plane, didn’t know Russia had really produced any commercial aircraft since the Soviet Union. Seems like it’s had some reliability issues, though.
Those planes are very unreliable (we are talking about major problems during or after most of the flights) and mostly used by Aeroflot who is forced to buy them by russian government because it's partially owned by them. Russia is currently building MS-21 plane but something tells me it will be as unreliable as SSJ.
The amount of people I see in those videos carrying their bags is so infuriating. Your bags aren't worth your life or those around you. Get off the fucking plane and leave them.
Goodness, how does it go from 11 to 41? I thought people made it off
New report I read mentioned people delaying the evacuation to grab thier carryon bags. Disgusting
Thats quite the brutal landing, is it normal for those to be that bad with the loss of avionics?
Even without the avionics, if all the control surfaces are still responding correctly, a landing should be achievable with relative ease. But if the computers were acting up for everything and it effect the control surfaces, then the fate of that plane was sealed well before they smashed into the runway
It's kind of sad to think that maybe one more person might have made it off if people didn't act so selfishly.
I don't know what happened, really. It's going to come down hard on the pilots, I think. Even if a lightning strike fried all the electronics they should still have correct speed readings from the analogue airspeed indicator, and they came in fast as fuck, bouncing off the runway, and then slamming back down, which is when the visible fire started
Horrible, and to think that more people could have probably been alive if people weren't so goddamn self-centered with their baggage. People who don't follow evacuation instructions and endanger others should honestly be sentenced to something.
overhead baggage should be locked throughout the flight. people are retarded.
Russian technology and selfish passengers,no one should die under those circumstances.
It's astonishing how many of you don't understand that those people are hardly controlling their actions. They are being controlled by emotions and primal instincts instead of their brains and logic. Most people who received no special training will do a lot of stupid things in extreme situations like this one.
Except emotions and primal instincts...would be about saving yourself....and not any objects around you.
Yeah no, I'm sorry but if you barely have any time to think, you're not gonna stop and open up the overhead containers and get your luggage out. You run the fuck away from your impending death.
You would think so, but people people can fall back on habitual or otherwise illogical behavior in these circumstances. Grabbing bags in a crash is something that has been observed before, to the point where airline attendants are often trained to shout "Leave your things" (or similar) in the event of a crash. Examples of such behavior before. https://www.bbc.com/news/business-36977903 Aeroplane evacuations
I think part of the reason why people instinctively want to grab their personal belongings with them is because in the heat of the moment, all you can think of is getting yourself out of there. Except, for travelers, the things that they choose to bring with them to travel with, are often so personal that it is one and the same. Their travel gear is part of themselves, something they committed to bringing, and when your brain isn't functioning at a normal pace(because some serious shit just happened around you) it feels logical. That's why people have to be prepared, and staff are required whose job is to control people. During building fires, people tell you not to rush, because a panicked blockade is deadly(see: The Station Nightclub Fire). During evacuations, they tell you to calmly but quickly leave the area. You can't rely on human instincts during these emergencies because the instinct is to save yourself and only yourself, which often causes people to make terrible decisions that end up costing more lives.
