Dude lives in the same city as me and is a co-worker to my ex-girlfriend.
Seriously fucked up. Honestly, leaving your kid in a car is the worse choice you can make, you'd be better off in almost any other way you can handle this situation.
Was the kid on drugs or knocked out? Because I knew how to open doors at that age.
Not that I'm saying the kid was at fault. Just saying if I was in a car as hot as an oven for hours I would have left.
Didn't deserve to die and I hope the father rots.
Some cars have locks that are too complicated for a four year old to deal with. On top of that if the father's a shit one, fear could keep the kid from trying anything.
this is like a more sane version, made by a person capable of empathy, unlike the historic wickedplayer404 response
Sorry I'm bad at wording things. I legit want to know if the father drugged or knocked out the kid. Im assuming since this was a work parking lot people would be coming and going and the kid could have flagged someone down if he was awake.
I wonder if the car had a child safety lock.
Some locks can prevent passengers from opening doors from the inside, thus requiring the use of a second party.
Yeah maybe. But the complaint states he last checked on the kid at 11 and got to the hospital at 5:30. No bathroom breaks?? Even assuming the kid had a diaper that would be cruel.
I think there's more going on here then what was printed.
You can always climb to the front seat and unlock them with the button.
It seems he might have been asleep.
I've actually been trapped in a car like this for about 40 mins when I was about 13, I stayed in the car while it was locked with the FOB and I couldn't get out. I reached to the front seats but the driver-side door lock switch did nothing. Early 2000s Audi
The fact that someone could care so little for their offspring is outstanding. I worry about my daughter to the point of spoiling her.
My parents said this to me as a kid all the time but I never understood. You will never understand this until you have a child of your own. "Love for your child is stronger than any emotion known to man."
no clue about america but in Europe we have Child Protection on some cars in the backseats to protecrt kids from opening doors mid-drive.
I'm not buying his story. The parking lot at CHS field (on google maps, other side is still crowded.) is close together and crowded. If I see a dog in a car on a sunny day I'm fairly concerned, no way these people missed a kid in the car. Even just glancing at the backseat would have shown him. I guess tinted windows could explain it, but that would be making an assumption.
He was definitely strapped for money. He couldn't renew his car tabs or registration according to court documents, and the mother definitely doesn't live with him since he had to pick up the kid. And the kids name isnt mentioned, so likely has a different last name.
The story itself just makes it hard to believe that it was an accident. He couldn't find a babysitter, so the logical conclusion was to take the kid with him to work, leave him in the car without checking on him for five hours, and then discover hes dead. Nevermind the fact anyone could have broken the window and taken the kid. At least the house would have food, a toilet and safety.
The news articles are contradicting themselves. On the first half on abcnews it says at 2:45 the child was tired and wanted to sit in the car. The second half says the last time the father checked on the child was at 11:30. It also says he did this before to the child, so this wasn't a one-time event.
I hope the investigator put on this case can find out what the hell happened for all parties involved and at least bring closure to the mother.
Most cars here in the US have this as well, I am pretty sure its required by law but don't quote me on that. A lot can be enabled or disabled by a little switch in the door.
