Millions if not billions of people believe horoscopes when they're literally made up. People from other backgrounds will have the same vulnerability to superstitions.
ya but like fortune cookies and horoscopes are harmless, its only a very small amount of people that actually spend any money on this stuff, kind of like a dozen other industries where a small amount of people make up the entire funding of the industry.

No, but people handing over explicit sexual material to some dumbass who promises to help them have the same kind of "not thinking hard enough about this" problem as people who believe horoscopes actually can predict their future.
I guess a more appropriate comparison would be, people fall for Scientology and reveal secrets that are recorded and used against them as blackmail, same kind of dumb here. These people wouldn't be getting scammed by this guy if they didn't want to believe that he could use magic and would use it to help them get a date. They wanted to believe what he was saying was true, and not only was it not, it's a blackmail scheme.

I don't know if I would call individuals susceptible to blind belief dumb, many psychologists such as Carl Jung believe that it's an intrinsic part of being human, and the fact that belief is so persistent through history supports this position.
Blind belief is one of the greatest weaknesses of humans and people have gotten exceptionally good at exploiting it.
