They still feature the superb Pixel camera that has been Google’s signature advantage, though they step down the spec to use plastic rather than glass for the rear, along with a more basic Snapdragon 670 processor, a limit of 64GB of maximum storage, and the omission of wireless charging and certified water resistance. The Pixel 3As do bring back the headphone jack, though! Google announces the Pixel 3A and 3A XL, starting at $399
It's basically an upgraded Pixel 1 with a Pixel 3 camera. Which for $400 is not that bad of a deal considering how my Pixel 1 XL is still working great after a couple years. Only problem is one speaker on it stopped working rather recently but no big deal really.
Praise Jibbers Crabst, there's actually a 5.5" model. I've been stuck on my ancient-ass phone for way too long because nobody makes a phone that's a) 5" to 5.5", b) with base Android and not loaded down with crap, c) decent specs, d) has a fucking headphone jack, and e) is on sale in the United States. Looks like my Nexus 5 can finally retire.
even though this leaked months ago i'm still surprised it has a headphone jack. might replace my Pixel 2 XL with the 3a XL if anything ends up happening to it
I'm not sure if I trust Google. Right as they neared the Pixel anniversary and started doing these numerous sales, they released an update that has TANKED my battery life on the original Pixel 1.
at least yours still works, my Pixel 1 XL bricked itself out of nowhere a couple years ago and i had to get it replaced. i'd still be using it today otherwise. (though either through an error on their side or just luck i guess, they sent back a Pixel 2 XL instead and that's been flawless for me ever since)
This looks to be the thing that will finally retire my nexus 5. He's done some good work but it's the camera that's letting it down now.
Will they still be really difficult to get a hold of?
You can buy it right now from the Google Store
This phone seems pretty good. It would be perfect for me if the plastic back means the battery is easy to replace.
Maybe this makes me a sucker for buying the Pixel 3 XL literally yesterday, but in my defense I really, really like wireless charging. And the performance is mind blowing compared to my rapidly aging Galaxy S7.
I wish they released these earlier, the notch and general fuckups of the Pixel 3 made me ultimately choose the Nokia 6.1.
Yeah, about that... Somebody please tell me the notch on the 3XL stops being so annoying after a while. Literally my only complaint about this phone.
Aye, think i should get it? I'm using a Nexus 5x currently and this is $545. I'm pretty happy with everything except the position of the headphone jack.
What the hell, I thought that was just me. I'm still using my Pixel 1 and will continue to until it croaks, but one of the main reasons I was doing this was because the newer ones didn't have the jack. This phone looks great but the notch and glossy design are not helping.
that's not a downgrade, that's an upgrade! fuck glass phones
I'm tempted to root my phone just to install some fixed version that doesn't ruin the battery.
Was debating getting a Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, would this be worth paying double what the Note 7 costs?
It's not there.
I have a Galaxy A50 and despite it having a waterdrop (or as I call it, a nipple) notch I can't help but notice it every time, specially in apps with a white background It's more subtle in dark mode stuff
Link works for me, how about this one? https://store.google.com/config/pixel_3a
If Apple doesn't release a new SE version, I might snag this.
you can turn it off in developer options. Done it with mine and it's much nicer You are not going to like the pixel 3 then; the pixel stand i got with the $50 dollar coupon they gave out to people who preordered almost always just runs in slow charging mode, despite the fact that the pixel stand is one of only two devices that work with google's wireless charging standard. If you try to use it on anything else, even if they support 10W wireless charging, it will not work and simply just display "charging slowly". Apparently the pixel stand issue is very common so unless you buy the belkin one, prepare to be disappointed. Oh the two chargers are also 60 bucks a pop either way you go
I have a bunch of cheapo wireless chargers scattered around the house and they've been working fine. They're charging it just as fast as they charged my S7, which is not very.
I'm shocked they're reintroducing the headphone jack. Have they decided that removing it was a stupid idea or are they trying to play a lack of core functionality up as a premium feature now?
i got the pixel 3 XL in the last black friday, and I gotta say it holds up a lot better than most smartphones I find
Guess we will find out when the release the Pixel 4.
Headphone jacks have largely remained on budget phones because phone makers recognize that less wealthy people are far less likely to have migrated to wireless audio. The 3.5mm jack can be more safely removed from flagship phones because buyers of flagships are expected to be richer and more willing to buy wireless earbuds or headphones. It's shitty that a convenient feature has been relegated to cheaper, worse phones, but that's how it is.
Same, I have a Nokia 6.1, and while I really like it, there's some stuff about it that bother me. Though the Pixel doesn't have a microsd slot either, so that's one thing the 6.1 has over it.
You should get literally anything to replace the 5X unless you've installed the mod that disables the high-performance cores. The SOC is guaranteed to die, there's a manufacturing fault on that line of SOCs that affects the Nexus 5X and all the other phones that use the same SOC. I replaced mine with an Honor 8X, but honestly after using the 8X for a while, I'm not that impressed with it. But I don't want to buy a new phone this soon either.
