Live Aid 2 would wreck Philly harder than Made in America happening on the day after the Super Bowl. I’m in.
Didn't we have that back in mid-late 2000?
To be honest: Its about a 5 minute walk to the stadiums they usually use to house these displays from a SEPTA Subway station.
Do you believe people have personal heroes? People that they look up to? Inspiring figures who they'll take time out of their day to listen to? If so, congratulations, you agree that awareness campaigns built by people who are popular can spur large amounts of people to doing the right thing. It's basic marketing: if people don't know or don't care, they don't do. They may not personally care about it until their idol cares about it -- and then they might decide to personally care about it because they see how important it is to their idol.
You're definitely approaching this from a calm, rational, viewpoint since you're trying to stay away as far as you can from hyperbole and stretching numbers to fit your point.
Ergo: nobody should do anything because everyone is full of shit and nothing good will happen to anyone and the world is fucked so why even bother?
Yeah that was another thing to fight poverty. It was 20 years after the first one and it's already been ~14 years since but honestly anything to help fight climate change asap is good because we're totally fucked.
It takes a lot of energy to construct hydroelectric dams and solar panels - guess we just shouldn't because of the upfront cost, regardless of the long-term outcome!
We're all just part of a large con where we pretend we care about climate change, and shame those who don't. 🤔
We shouldn't be building hydroelectric dams because they're atrocious for the local environment and ruin rivers. We need nuclear and renewables, too bad most people are afraid of nuclear because "but Chernobyl" and lobbying groups spend billions fighting renewables.
I think my brain just exploded and not in a good way like when I watch furry porn in a dark room wearing a captain planet mask.
I might be a bit biased because the entirety of Norway is powered by hydro. Our geography makes it pretty convenient. Nuclear is nice when you can't rely 100% on renewables.
While I would absolutely love to get a chance to go to another Live Aid, I don't know if this would be effective for anything, including climate change. Hell, even though the Ethiopian fund for the original Live Aid was massive, apparently it wasn't nearly as effective as Geldof hoped and actually ended up harming the country because of the corrupt government backing it. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/132431/1c0760fd-d0b1-4cdb-acb4-74f54a938c3c/image.png I mean yeah Brian, a massive concert across the pond with all of these performers would be amazing and could bring a lot of eyes to the problems of climate change, but we learned decades ago that pumping money into it is only one half of the problem. With climate change, the biggest problem it faces is a lack of movement politically, and politics are currently a bit tied up with the whole Brexit thing and the Trump thing and whatnot, and those who could care are being paid by various companies to sit on their asses and do nothing about it. Plus, the type of people who would go to this sort of thing probably already want climate change to be taken seriously, so it's not like we're convincing anyone and it's not like throwing money at it will make that work. (unless that money was pumped directly into a SuperPAC for some key members of congress or something? 'unno. Seems like a fishy way to do it I suppose.) It seems like this was nothing more than just an idea though, and that he's not like actively trying to work on this, so I'll give May a bit of credit in that he probably didn't think too hard about this and just wants someone else to pick up the pieces for him.
If they’re going to bring that garbage excuse of a Freddie-replacement Adam Lambert they may as well not bother.
Considering their shows these days are billed as "Queen + Adam Lambert" I'm not entirely sure it's fair to call him a "Freddie Replacement" since I think everyone involved knows he can't fill those shoes entirely (and frankly no one can).
He's the lead vocalist & main stage presence in place of Freddie. He's a Freddie replacement. It's a harsh way to say it, but that's what he is. <opinion> He's also detrimental to Queen's overall quality, because he's just not that good. </opinion>
and in 2005. Lost my shit when Linkin Park and J-Zay appeared on stage in Philly. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_8
