https://www.thedailybeast.com/doj-to-ask-white-house-to-invoke-privilege-over-entire-mueller-report The House Judiciary Committee still plans to hold a markup session Wednesday morning to hold Attorney General Bill Barr in contempt for ignoring a subpoena to release to members the full, unredacted Mueller report, according to a senior Democratic aide. The Department of Justice plans to ask the White House to invoke privilege over the report if the committee moves forward with the markup session, that aide said. The news comes after staffers with the department and the committee met Tuesday afternoon in an attempt to come to an agreement about the release of the redacted report. The two sides, after weeks of negotiations, have once again failed to come to an understanding. “In the face of the Committee’s threatened contempt vote, the Attorney General will be compelled to request that the President invoke executive privilege with respect to the materials subject to the subpoena.” The DOJ asked the committee to delay any vote on whether to recommend a citation of contempt for noncompliance with the subpoena. But the judiciary committee still plans to move forward with the markup session, raising the chances that the fighting between DOJ and the Hill over the report will turn into an all-out brawl. Literally stupid Watergate
Well, since Barr seems determined to go down with Trump under obstruction charges in 2021 we'll have the satisfaction of putting yet another scumbag away.
its so fucking funny that barr thought he could just say the report exonerated trump and everyone would just say "okay i guess thats that." now and trump's cronies are doing everything they can to prevent the full report getting out.
But... I thought it exonerated Trump of everything???
are they really trying to go down the route of United States V Nixon, because in that case using executive privilege to deliberately suppress the release of evidence to congress was bitchslapped down.
This is basically like saying there's no body buried here while we watch you shovel dirt on top of a body
That was clearly a wax statue! What's that? No you may not go and check to verify, just believe me!
Barr's summary, while misleading, never said the report exonerated Trump.
You know there's something terribly wrong when a Canadian and Englishman are more optimistic than Americans.
I was actually directly quoting Trump's tweets where he claimed it totally exonerated him, not Barr.
He did it https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/08/us/politics/congress-contempt-barr.html Totally definitely exonerating report, 100% completely for sure
Trump knows that this is just going to cause the report to be leaked, right?
It’s okay, he loves Wikileaks. They do everything for the people, am I right?
Trump loves leaks when they benefit him. Anything that shows him in a good light, just fine, and in fact given his personal history of doing exactly that there's a reasonable chance it was leaked deliberately with or without his direct involvement. Anything that makes him look bad, such as a leak of one of his staffers talking shit about a then-still-dying John McCain in a meeting followed by him calling it fake news, which turned the story into a week-long controversy because he absolutely refused to admit to being wrong or apologizing, needs to be punished with maximum prejudice and the leakers are traitors.
This is a regime change. We are watching our republic being replaced by autocracy.
White House Appears to Waive Privilege on Mueller Report | Time “Following that review, the President confirmed that, in the interests of transparency and full disclosure to the American people, he would not assert privilege over the Special Counsel’s report,” he said." 🤔
At that point they can just claim it's fake and that will be the end of it.
It may not be bitchslapped down again, if Trump's Unitary Executive Theorist buddies have any say in it.
*Trump gets elected* "wtf I'm an unitary executive theorist now"
When the Attorney General tells the president to claim executive privilege... shit just isn't right. Is there ANY scenario, in which the president of the USA is under investigation and the ATTORNEY GENERAL telling him to bury the evidence by using executive privilege, isn't corrupt?
It’s been an autocracy for years. It’s just in plain sight now.
Yeah no, I'm actually really tired of hearing this. As Americans we have two ways of looking at things: either we think "it can't happen here," in which case we essentially invite regime change by ignoring the obvious warning signs, or on the other hand, when the regime change finally happens, we think "well it's always been this way" and therefore always will be this way. Both of these outlooks are wrong, and neither leaves any room for us to take responsibility for the moment we are living in. If autocracy isn't possible, then we don't have to remain vigilant. If autocracy is already here, and the battle is already lost, then what responsibility do we have to fight back? Please scrub these ideas from your mind. The truth is that yes, we have been moving in an authoritarian direction for a while now, but that future isn't written yet. We can still try to stop it. We can vote, volunteer, donate, expand the public sphere, and most importantly adopt good ethics in our personal and professional lives. This takes effort, and it's less comfortable than sitting back and believing convenient lies, but in the end it's worth it.
