There's no actual redeeming qualities with it at all though, not when MC 2019 has so much content Playing the early early alphas were fun but there's literally zero content
hatsune miku's humble beginnings as a game dev. beautiful.
it is an artifact of game history

I remember spending a good amount of hours with this and just seeing how much can I dig through. Reminded me when I would dig endless tunnels in the glass house level in Red Faction.
What the hell, I was just rewatching some old video recordings I saved of Minecraft Classic back in the day with friends. Glad it's possible to play it again.
not able to join anyone's game

I had really forgotten how hideous the game was back then.
Funny that because the textures are exactly the same even today being a smart ass aside I know you mean the full bright VS shaders + flowers. But its really crazy how really, the only thing that's changed is the addition of content. There is a lot of wonderful stuff even just on the Windows version though. It's very fun. The decade has served it well.
A bunch of them have changed, actually. Gravel and cobblestone are far less grainy than they used to be.
Original Maybe I'm remembering wrong but that doesn't look like the original version to me. I remember the world being a tiny box with hard edge limits and a lotta multicolor blocks
Holy shit. I remember when minecraft classic was originally a thing and I ran a server on it using MC Forge
That's the OG Alpha, later renamed Classic you're thinking of.
You ain't classic unless you remember https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/227852/d100820c-a082-4ccc-8887-bd27d76cbe58/image.png these janky-ass trees:
I remember fucking around with this in high school because it was the only form of MC I could get to run on the computers at the time.
hard to believe notch started making the game ten years ago now, it doesn't feel like its been that long
They made an almost complete overhaul of the textures in the latest update.
I'm still bitter the gameplay turned out to be nothing but endlessly accumulating resources you'll never need or exploring endless samey caverns, fighting samey monsters with the jankiest combat system of any game ever
Playing Alpha as a young teenager was a whimsical time. There was nothing like it at the time, shit was brand-new; so being dropped into this procedually generated world just naturally provoked curiosity in exploring this little game-world and experimenting with what you could do with it. Notch wasn't revealed to be a piece of dookie at the time, so it was pretty exciting when he'd announce progress on new features, and the game gradually accumulating little updates every other week
Is Minecraft still popular or did Fortnite steal its thunder?
Probably to an extent even though they are now effectively in different genres. All I can observe is that alot of kids still play both.
I miss floating islands
I'm pretty sure that the version we all remember as "classic" is 0.30. It has (nonfunctional) tnt blocks, bookshelves, slabs, etc.
i read an article late last year saying that minecraft still had more monthly players than fortnite, although fortnite could've easily overtaken it by now it wouldn't surprise me either way, for kids minecraft is a lot more than a video game. it's almost more comparable to youtube or netflix in terms of varity of entertainment my mum owns a paint-your-own ceramics type place and the #1 theme kids go for is still minecraft, with fortnite and minions being close second/third.
i played classic a fuckton back in the day and i liked making abstract structures and giant residential space ships called Big Fucking Ships and then there was spleef
may i introduce you the incerdible world of modded minecraft mods make minecraft an actual game

I remember those old ass cooperative facepunch threads that made people use the same save file and took turns building on the map.
