Spider-man being kid friendly is so clearly to draw the next generation into the new 'era' of MCU. They even make jokes about him being the next iron man in the trailer. You'd have to be dumb not to see whats coming.
Look, as long as they don't end up making Spider-Man: One More Day, I'm okay with them making Spidey more kid friendly.
what exactly isn't kid friendly about Spider-man? Besides, with bitch and dickhead and serious lingering loss and depression in the trailers, I don't really think it's being made more kid-friendly lol, as if Spider-man on a regular day isn't already
Wait what? I thought endgame was... You know, the end. I knew there was a new Guardians, and obviously a new Spidey movie, but I thought it was just them doing their own thing. They're continuing the mcu? I don't mean this in a bad way, I'm super excited about more mcu because marvel has been making some fucken KILLER movies.
They still have a lot they still need to integrate into the Marvel Universe. Especially the Fantastic Four and the X-Men characters. And there are a few characters that haven't been fully fleshed out yet so we still need another Doctor Strange movie. It's why we are getting a Black Widow movie (which imo should have been way before everything).
The MCU makes money, why would they ever end it? Endgame was going to be the end of Phase 3, and the beginning of Phase 4 where it's less about "avengers movies fuck yeah" and more about experimenting with side characters and such that are still fit for the movie format.
The first MCU movie had more adult content than any previous Spider-Man movie. Ned lies about working with Spider-Man by claiming he was watching porn; Peter keeps getting called "Penis Parker" byFlash Thompson; fucking Aunt May walks in on Peter in costume and lets out an F-bomb; kids in school are playing "fuck, marry, kill" with superheroes; etc. Overall, it actually captured what teenagers are really like in real life, unlike the previous two film series, cause it got away with as absolutely much as it could while still holding to a PG-13 rating.
I hope Waititi gets to do Valk Thor Still not really feeling Sam Cap though. He has his moments but he's still greatly overshadowed by his predecessor
For the first time ever they have successfully transferred the serial style of comic book storytelling to the cinema, and it's making them billions of dollars. They're going to ride this out until it crashes and burns. Personally I'm fine with that, the MCU films are generally varied enough that they are boring.
The end will be when it's no longer profitable.
He's got stories that get into some dark shit. Like obviously his origin is him accidentally letting his uncle get murdered due to selfishness, his dads best friend facilitated the death of his girlfriend (who died because of Spider-Mans direct actions snapping her neck) and then got impaled on his own flying bat broomstick, said best friend died of a drug overdose, Kravens Last Hunt where Kraven traps him in a shallow grave for multiple days while going around murdering people in a spider-man costume and then blowing his own head off, etc..
So, I take it we have reached peak Marvel. It's only downhill from here lads.
The only way we can really go downhill is if they butcher Dr. Doom.
TBF Kevin Fiege has been using the term "phase" to refer to the plot line since before Avengers 1 and before the rights were even transferred to Disney, somewhere inbetween Avengers 1 and Iron Man 3, which was the last film in the series to be produced by Paramount. Thanos had his first appearance in Avengers 1, so he has definitely been there waiting for his moment for at least 6 years if you go by release date, longer if you count production time. I wouldn't go so far as saying that they had -every aspect- planned out from the beginning, but I would argue Thanos as the ultimate villain has been gradually set up since at least Avengers 1, with the events that lead to Infinity War starting at Guardians and Winter Soldier. I feel the "Phase" demarcation is more used to refer to the hero's journey as it applies to the entire MCU so far. Phase 1 is your comfortable space, with a call to action coming by Avengers 1, Phase 2 is your rising action and escalation when the stakes are established and the problem becomes tangible once it's established that Thanos is actively seeking out the stones in Avengers 2, as well as the fall of SHIELD and the division being sown between the now-split avengers, Phase 3 is the climax (with a few throwaway movies that serve to set up something for infinity war here and there, looking at you Dr. Strange, Black Panther, Ant-man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel) and the point at which the universe deals with the most loss and drastic changes, and the ultimate defeat of the villain, and Spiderman: FFH serves as the epilogue. I made a handy chart to convey what I'm trying to get across visually https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/57926/a1dc73db-6f2d-47c9-befe-c983e10ea651/image.png in terms of the MCU's storyline. I don't think using Phases is a misrepresentation of what we've gotten at all as it corresponds to story structure
I think we are long overdue for a new Hulk movie.
We're at the end of an era here that's for sure, it'll be interesting to see where they go from here. I do really appreciate that they're giving this a break though, they've been churning out movies way too fast and saturating the market lately. Of course now that Tony is dead and Cap is retired, they can't really continue The Avengers series since it all started with Iron Man and was largely carried by Captain America. I wonder what new characters their plans involve bringing into the fold, maybe after all these decades we're going to get a Fantastic Four adaptation that isn't shit. Also they're obviously going to bring in X-Men characters now that they can, they've been trying to find a way to do that from day one.
You know, while I am not exactly chomping at the bit for another torrent of Marvel movies, I am intrigued and hesitantly excited at the possibility of not only a faithful Doctor Doom but a faithful Doctor Doom as the slow buildup franchise-wide threat after Thanos.
My only fanboy wish for MCU is for them to just bring back JK Simmons as JJJ and just play it straight. No other man can play that role
And I'm perfectly fine with that. Some people may not like superhero movies, maybe they just burnt out, but I'm still a huge fan of them and judging by how much Endgame made in the box office so are a lot of people. As long as they keep the same level of quality I have no qualms with them making more movies for the foreseeable future. Hell, even their episodic content has been great thus far (Daredevil, Agents of SHIELD, etc).
Honestly while I appreciate the idea and scene of him passing the torch, and I think it's very symbolically important for Captain America's character that the legend lives on, I do kinda have to agree. Chris Evans' Cap has been a focal point for most of the MCU up to this point, especially in The Avengers movies. I'm sure he'll give it his all, but I don't really think Sam's Cap will be a driving force like his predecessor was.
Some licensing issue with Universal prevents marvel from doing this. Apparently they only have straight up rights for using him as a crossover. They've been giving his arch in other movies deliberately.
Now that Disney owns FOX, having the X-Men miss out on all this shit was a crime but now's a better time than ever to introduce the mutant outbreak to the MCU Earth.
spiderman miiiiiggght introduce mutants, certainly peter seems more mutanty (given that he hasn't had a backstory)
A post endgame hulk movie would be really, really neat, maybe with banner exploring his new capabilities.
He does though, it was given in Homecoming in a very quick explanation to his friend. Its his standard origin story of being bitten by a spider. They just didn't want to tread that ground for the third time.
They plan this universe way in advance, Feige said it will be at least five years till we see Sniktbub and the Secret Pals.
Plz make a new Ghost Rider movie, thank you.
