I mean once he is no longer a sitting president any state attorney general, such as in New York, can charge him for all his crimes in the state that have now been well exposed to the public. And the DoJ for the next sitting president could actually act on the material they have.

Well first off, the President can only pardon federal crimes, so as someone else said if the NY Attorney General wants to prosecute, they can. And since NY is not a Trumpian state, it may be a possibility.
