This would cause a backlash, I don't think a lot of people are ready to commit to such drastic measures, even if they are necessary.
Maybe, but drastic measures are what we need to survive now. We wouldn’t be at this point if we had taken any measures before.
Ignore the backlash, people speaking out against should fall on deaf ears.
If people are not ready (which we aren't) then these drastic measures have to be forced upon people. Because "naturally" people will get used to change.
That's neat and all but then climate change turns into the next migrant crisis and you'll have right wing parties seizing the opportunity to shit all over the EU again.
Agreed, life isn't a grand strategy game where you're some shady dictator behind the scenes running the show, and when things go wrong spend magic points to boost your nation's stability.
The alternative seems to be we capitulate and do less to combat climate change so that the next migrant crisis happens faster and worse and we still have right wing parties seizing the opportunity to shit all over the EU again.
It's a catch-22 to an extent but I'd rather see something get done than have the masses kneejerk-balk at mild inconvenience yet again and thrust power into the hands of people who would fuck their mothers if it added an extra zero to their bank account.
It definetly would, but as an European I dont mind. I would literally fight with people who would deny the importance of drasting changes, idc man, come @ me
I don't think a lot of people realize the amount of shit we are in. The longer we do nothing the more drastic the measures we'll have to make. People are never going to be ready to commit. Not dealing with climate change is going to create one of the greatest migrant crisis that's ever happened when coastlines around the planet gets submerged and more locations are plagued by extreme weather. Being more worried about political bullshittery than our own fucking planet is what's got us in this mess in the first place.
Are you unfamiliar with American politics? Obama passed a Republican healthcare plan and it was deemed "socialist" and used as a cudgel against the Democratic party. You have to be very naive to think AOC is being ridiculed because the GND is too ambitious for Republicans' tastes.
AOC has not been ridiculed despite the desperate attempts. The GOP propaganda machine is grasping for straws and getting owned by WikiFeet out of all people. I don't see how you can look at the utter cluelessness of her detractors and think to yourself «heh, owned». Get a grip, loser.
