Remember when this meant you lost the game
Did they have to fucking mosaic censor the hand in that image? It looks more like the dude is flashing a small dildo on camera instead.
Jesus fuck these morons are falling right into 4chan's lap by going along with deeming the fucking OK hand sign as "white supremacist."
Actually believing that it's a neo nazi symbol is one thing, but I can't believe they actually censored it. That's just fucking hilarious.
Giving trolls ammunition isn't going to make them go away.
good fucking lord...
Literally giving them what they want. I dunno what this guys motives were but assuming anyone who uses the fucking okay sign is a nazi is dumb and is literally what they wanted, to have left leaning people jumping it shadows all the time by trying to appropriate random day to day things. It's why they did the whole milk thing to see if they could get left wing people to declare drinking milk an act of white nationalism. Just stop reacting to it.
Oh my fucking god NBC...
Ah thats right, the "okay" sign is now an alt-right neo-nazi symbol
you did it, world! you gave internet trolls exactly what they wanted! again!
How many pol memes would it take to make the news think a rainbow Peacock is a Nazi symbol and send NBC into a frenzy?
Literally taking the ball gazer/made you look game and re-purposing it as a white power symbol because people are too stupid to remember childish games from schools. Like god fucking damn guys.
Censoring the symbol is silly, sure. But as far as banning him goes, isn't the intent the important part? Is it wrong to ban someone from a venue for spreading hateful ideology on TV?
If the ideology is "We're lowkey taking childish game symbols from when you were in school and making you think they were always evil naughty hand gestures" then sure I guess, but I fucking doubt the guy who did this is a white nationalist, and even if he is, it's a fucking OK sign made out of your hand...
I can't believe scuba divers have been racists all this time
does the message never matter if the means co-opt something innocent? do racists just get a free pass forever to degrade others? if it's stupid to condemn a symbol because the symbol does not inherently relate to the meaning, why is it also stupid to condemn the meaning and the person trying to spread it?

You know who else wore all black? https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1808/8a32019e-3cc1-454c-a543-f81d2bc3405b/hqdefault.jpg They thought they could get away with it ALL THIS TIME!
The issue here is intent, and the guy flashing the symbol has plausible deniability, which makes it tricky. Ultimately what makes a middle finger offensive compared to just a finger pointing up is what we collectively associate the gesture as, and what idea or message we intent to send with that symbol. Somebody could genuinely give a thumbs up with the mindset that it meant "good job", but if they lived in Afghanistan, other people would interpret it as "up yours." The issue is essentially that we can't tell what someone's true motive is in this situation, and culturally the symbol is becoming divided over whether 👌 is now associated with white supremacy or 👌 means you just lost the game. So, we have to assume it was either intentional and he meant to offend, or it was a joke. With the former the "victim" is both the reporter and anyone watching, but the harm is not quantifiable, so ultimately it comes down to PR: will banning this fan improve our relation with the public, or harm it? Honestly, I think banning anything for the symbol is an overreaction and will just solidify the symbol to mean white supremacy. I think most people right now understand it isn't a symbol of hate in most cases, but the more media attention it gets eventually people will think it is.
I always thought the okay symbol meant okay.
Lmbo well my work wallpaper is the circle game "ok" below the waist, I guess I should change it before someone thinks I'm a Literal White Supremacist
In general, not necessarily in this case.
after this I'm actually expecting white milk to show up one day
I mean, why would they not? It's not like constant, extreme escalation has't become the norm anywhere on the political spectrum
I can't believe I'm in a world where a few months ago there was an online pamphlet on pol about co-opting ok-hand to trick the public into believing it's a white nationalist symbol, despite it being a decades old school game and even an emoji and it FUCKING WORKED. How stupid do you have to be to fall for this kind of shit, I feel like im having a fuckign strjeirjk

If you do jazz hands on screen with the intent of being hateful should you be banned?
Friendly reminder to everyone here: Nazis have been co-opting innocent symbols since the beginning and just because something was innocent doesn't mean that its associations can't change overtime, even if it started changing ironically. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika#Northern_Europe
uhm… isn't that just the "made you look" thing? what the hell does that have to do with nazis? do nazis drink water? ...they do? oh fuck, brb getting a uniform
This reminds me of that tweet that went something along the lines of "A: Let's troll people into thinking that the OK gesture is a symbol of White Supremacy. B: How do we do that? A: By making the gesture and talking and behaving like white supremacists." Cant find it atm.
