This week, an amendment was added that would have also permitted access to abortion in cases of rape and incest.
Reports suggest that shouting and arguing broke out in the legislative chamber, located in the city of Montgomery, after Republicans sought to have those exemptions removed.
The push in Alabama has been led by state senator Terri Collins, who has said she hopes the legislation would trigger a legal battle that could force the Supreme Court in Washington DC reconsider the Roe ruling.

Finally some good fucking discourse
Unfortunately only delayed until next week.
Fucking insane to think babies being born from incest is a good idea. If God loved incest so much, why did he make it so that babies conceived that way often have weird genes?
If god existed, the last 3 years would have never happened.
Yeah, he'd have pulled the plug well before then.
The republican party is pure evil.
can't have any justice for women who are brutally assaulted, raped, and impregnated, nope, gotta make those women suffer through the ordeal, 9 months of pregnancy, and the rest of their lives for someone else's actions.
It's Alabama. Incest is the only way they sustain their population.
Alabama bill would criminalize false rape accusations
Here's a fun bonus. If someone is accused of rape and found not guilty, their accuser goes to prison.
FUCK Alabama.
I say we have require mandatory abortions on 100% of all women. That'll fuck with republicans.
Isn't that a misrepresentation of that bill? I thought that bill was only if it is proven beyond a reasonable doubt the accuser was lying?
Which is odd because fraud and filing a false police report are against the law anyway.
Exactly, this and some heartbeat shit in Georgia are being blatantly rolled out because the Republicans think Kavanaugh stacks the deck enough in their favor to erase Roe V Wade.
Fucking THIS, among other reasons, are why even though I DESPISE Hillary, could never condone a protest vote for a Republican, be it Trump or anyone. The power to assign Justices is one the Republicans will nakedly abuse, and single-handedly capable of destroying civil rights.
Imagine returning to a world where abortion is criminalized. Remember that subplot from Dirty Dancing? Yeah, but add the potential for a back-alley abortion also being tied to felony homicide, as if incarceration in the United States wasn't already a horror show. And you think the Republicans will be satisfied? What's next in their ultimate goal of a Bible-thumping distopia? People will turn like mad to birth control, so let's watch them attack that in whatever chickenshit way they can. Let's see them argue for laws against adultery too.
Yeah, but the punishments are pretty lax. Regardless of the crime, I think the punishment for falsely accusing someone should be the same as what the falsely accused could have gotten.
I know its been said for a decade now but I think we're at the end of the reagan resurgence of the conservatives. the GOP has no long term strategy, ask trump or mcconnell what the country looks like in 20 years and they'll just say its exactly like it is today. the demographics are changing against them and these blatant power grabs are so similar to what conservative democrats did in the 80s to cling to power and those ended up backfiring spectacularly. its just too early to see what 2020 will look like though, trump will actually have a campaign machine, but have to run against his record while the democrats have to somehow not fuck up the primaries with the gop's propaganda machine blaring on and on about conspiracies in the dnc.
I'm surprised noone's talking about the real insidious agenda going on with these Republicans trying to ban abortion and/or overturn Roe v. Wade
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decree_770
They're trying to import Decree 770 to the US, and noone is talking about it. This goes beyond "Muh lawd and savyuh!" bullshit they disguise it as - It's about Commoditizing labor, creating a boatload of orphans for the State to use as they please, and make a little extra DO$H on the side selling the scraps on the Black Market (Remember PizzaGate? 250% PROJECTION).
Learn History, people, and not just Hitler history. Otherwise we're doomed to repeat it. (Though IIRC Nazi Germany had its own thing similar to Decree 770, but I'd say Ceaușescu managed to outdo them in insidiousness)
Abortion and contraception were declared illegal, except for:
women over 45 (later lowered to 40)
women who had already borne four children (later raised to five)
women whose life would be threatened by carrying to term, due to medical complications
women who were pregnant through rape and/or incest
Republicans don't even want those exceptions. Decree 770 is a lite version of what the GOP envisions.
It's not when you consider it's red meat for their base.
