Yeah its probably a really bad movie.
I suppose we all have this moment where we get permanently mentally scared by a good horror movie, for these kids that moment may have been a bit more unexpected.

"Note: La Llorana opens with a scene of a mother drowning her child." Tbh if somebody caught that and then just turned on Detective Pikachu after, pulled in Benny the janitor and just started dubbing over the movie together, you could probably fool the kiddies into thinking Detective Pikachu is about some real shit
I was a huge pussy growing up, this shit would have fucked with me for like a year or more.
Children terrified when theatre plays Sonic the Hedgehog trailer before Detective Pikachu showing
As long as theater workers are high school kids being paid way too little to actually care, this will keep happening over and over and over, forever.
This happened all the time when I was a teenager working at the theater. Typically the GM just fucks up the playlist rotation, hardly news worthy.

can confirm. For me it was "the grudge" with sarah michelle gellar and it was a halloween school event which I wasn't even supposed to be part of. Plus I had no friends within the group I was with which somehow made it worse.
I still refuse to watch The Shining.
I think it's interesting how adding just a slight bit of Pikachu's design makes Sonic look much better, and vice versa adding elements of Sonic's movie design ruins Pikachu.
i watched "Pet Cemetery" at too young an age and it gave me nightmares for years
Sonified Pikachu makes me think of some kind of a troll ass parody game from the early 90's for some reason.
That just says a lot about both of their overall designs.
https://www.nme.com/news/children-see-saw-3d-at-megamind-screening-after-ci-878842 what is it with cinemas fucking it up like this
Not quite on point of the thread but related to seeing unexpected things as a child and with this franchise on topic, this thing has its own space since I was 13. https://i.imgur.com/fs51CjC.png https://i.imgur.com/UM6JXWj.png May not be near the idea here, but there is something mildly unsettling that persisted up to this day whenever I read about how these glitches work. I can be searching details to replicate them for reverse engineering curiosity but sometimes when I see a mess up of graphics with that name my mind changes to eerie mode for the rest of the page because of how elaborated they are despite being just glitches. There is something unique around it.
Yeah, let's not pretend Pokemon hasn't traumatized at least a couple kids on its own https://youtu.be/JNJJ-QkZ8cM
Pikachu.... more like PEEKABOO!
The Shining's more of a psychological horror movie though. Nothing outright gore about it that I recall aside from the blood river in the corridor thing I guess.
Yeah, I was mostly referencing it because of its flawless capacity to fuck people up after viewings, especially if they are young.
Eh, as an adult I've been more fucked up by some thriller/police type movie than The Shining.
This is clearly a government conspiracy to create the next Shigesato itoi. https://neoencyclopedia.fandom.com/wiki/Giygas When Itoi was a young boy, he accidentally viewed the wrong movie at a theater, a Shintoho film entitled Kenpei to barabara shibijin. According to Itoi the film featured a murder scene near a river that Itoi mistook for a rape scene that traumatized Itoi so much that his parents began to worry about his well-being. Years later, Itoi integrated the experience into Giygas’ dialogue for the final battle.
If you get traumatized during the movie screening you become a game developer, if you get traumatized after the movie screening you become a superhero. If you get traumatized before the movie even started you get to go through the theater over and over again while being chased by a reality warping spiral dude.
This happened before with Madgascar 3 when the the theater accidentally played Paranormal Activity 4 instead of the movie.
I wonder if this ever happened in reverse where people who bought tickets to watch "Skull Exploding Decapitator 5" instead got to watch teletubbies for two hours.
When I was around 8 or 9 I accidentally watched Blair Witch while thinking it was a real documentary. Explains a lot about my adult life actually
