Former Vice President Joe Biden (D) is atop the field of Democratic presidential candidates in most polls, but a new survey finds that many of his supporters would be willing to back his top rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).
Shows that name recognition is everything
Yeah... Biden and Sanders are incredibly different so I can't think of any other reason why so many Biden supporters would have Bernie as their second choice, even though I think it's a good thing that some of them want Bernie too.
I also think, Is the same name recognition why Biden is magically regaining this first place spot, after that stupid announcement boost. But I will what until the first Democratic Party primary debate this June or July, if this was a definitely propagated fad by same biased "Liberal" mainstream media.
I can think of a simple reason:
Those 30% aren't picking Bernie as their second choice in principle, just in practice. They want Bernie to win, but suspect that through the way the system works, Biden has a better chance to win - and they'd rather have Biden over a Republican, so they put their vote behind Biden.
Is this how Bernie could still win??
Nope. All indications suggest the superdels are going to snub him again.
Maybe, just maybe, he has name recognition because he was the VP for one of the most popular presidents in the past 30 years?
Just a thought.
It's not always some conspiracy by secret party higher-ups or a media agenda.
it's both.
The DNC got rid of the superdelegate system after 2016
Honestly fuck that. Biden may be visually better than Trump and the Republican cohort but he and the party establishment he represents serve as little comfort, as they seem to be moderate Republicans by any other name. They only have the sense to incorporate seemingly inclusive sloganing and image work into their campaigns.
Anyone who has the gall to propose a compromising middle path as ideal in dealing with climate change, when you are compromising with deniers, has nothing to propose in my eyes. (And that's just one policy point.)
Technically true. Superdel's are now barred from the first round of voting.
So yes. The superdelegates are slightly nerfed, and diet soda is slightly better for you then regular soda!
Superdelegates were created because a grassroots left populist was fucking obliterated in the general in 1972, McGovern lost 49 states
Many states have also passed rules that superdelegates must vote in correspondence to the popular vote of the state primaries as well.
I'm pretty sure they're actually worse for you.
Literally as useless as the electoral college, then, and just as harmful to democracy. All they do is create more of a possibility for a minority to win against a majority through threshold effects, and that's on top of being a winner-takes-all fuckfest as well.
