Hello, Ive been play Rust on Linux for many years now I really like the game and it has potential to be the greatest game of all
time. I know Linux users appreciate the effort in publishing a Linux variant from Unity. If any developer or decision maker read this I
would like to propose an Idea on how to end the Linux version Rust.
What if you release one final fixed version for Linux ? even if you have to roll it back to a working state before it broke. I was
thinking that it would be a nice send off. Ask the team if they would consider such a thing.
You can even sell it as a stand alone game that Linux users can buy over again to run on their local machines.
Thanks for all your hard work over the years.

What's broken? Seems okay to me, but I admit to not playing rust much - can you tell me what features don't work properly?
And you do know they haven't made a decision to end linux support yet right? Debating != ending.
Frankly it would be a terrible idea to have a standalone linux version that has no cross compatibility with windows players. Take a good hard look at exactly how ARMA 3 did in this exact scenario.
They have already told me they will not point blank. https://forum.facepunch.com/rust/bvisq/Support-tickets-being-closed-wihout-resoultion/1/
I do think its weird that people compare "no game" to a game that "is'nt multiplayer cross compatible". That's apple's and oranges and sometimes your just hungry. Rust is very playable as a home server game you play with friends. Yes its a different experence but a good one. The alternative is not to be able to play at all. Im sure at least one server will host the Linux version, like the ones hosted on gamingonlinux.com. I agree it would be the best of a bad situation, and only as a alternative to completely dropping the Linux client. However that would show far more professionalism then I would expect at this point.
I play Diablo II and Age of Empires II all the time. No I cant enjoy huge online gamer pools anymore but all I need are a couple good friends with a laptop.
OK, how you got Rust to run?. Thank you Darksoul and Bobo Baggins for your responses.
My Specs :
LinuxMint 18.3 Sylvia
DELL Precision 690
4x Inetl Xeon CPU 3.73ghz | Processor x2 (so its 8X)

GeForce GTX 760/PCIe/SSE2 / Graphics Card
CUDA cores: 1152
memory: 2048
Rust quits during asset warmups and other server loading events.
Any idea you guys have would help. Reading around online I thought Face Punch suddenly dropped support. So I came here to get some clarity for myself.
I also notice some other server errors when trying out my own a local server. Things like main Cam missing and such are familiar with me as we use Unity at work almost every other day. (I'm the tech artist not coder )
Let Me know your mind on this stuff,

Launched through steam. Zero issues.
Try a rolling release distro. If that doesn't help you should monitor your VRAM usage and see if you are running out during the asset warmups. 2GB might be the windows requirements but this doesn't account for Linux's vulkan upgrade or xrog's/DE 500MB-1GB VRAM usage on it's own.
From what Ive read of other peoples reports you need 2.7GB vram min (so 4GB cards) for the vulkan version. The Linux version is Vulkan only. You also need around 12GB ram although some people have gotten it to start with 8, many are having problems. Its also worth noting that most people having problems have Nvidia cards. Apart from the current disco light problem also affecting the windows Vulkan build and some people reporting freezing at launch site it works pretty good. I get around 20-30% better performance and far less micro stuttering then on the windows build.
