The Last Jedi was an unmitigated disaster so this gives me hope for Fallen Order.
Dave Filoni is also heavily involved too.
I just hope we don't get some generic story about discovering his powers and joining the resistance.
TLJ would've been a lot better if it actually committed to being subversive. making luke an actual asshole or having rey and kylo join forces would've been more interesting than what we got. KotOR2 was borderline antagonistic in its treatment of the star wars mythology and it's widely regarded as a masterpiece despite being a broken unfinished mess
Are you sure you're not thinking of The Mandalorian? That's the only other project he's involved with.
Honestly projects he's involved in are better when he's not the lead. He's a good writer but he loves grimdark, hopeless shit and would jam it into everything if he didn't have someone else reeling him in.
"Writer takes easy shots at low-hanging fruit"
Wasn't he so mad about the Fallout setting progressing and repairing rather than becoming a hopeless perpetually barren wasteland that in New Vegas he was responsible for the Tunnelers, which are a bunch of monsters that despite being chumps in gameplay are meant to be a deus ex machina and terrifying monsters that will completely overrun Nevada and completely erase all of the progress that's been made there?
Yep, he has even stated that if he was given free reign to make a Fallout sequel he'd have the NCR nuke itself to reset the clock.
Personally I think the development of the Fallout world after the apocalypse is one of the most interesting things about the series, and see Chris as essentially advocating for an eternally stagnant setting.
EA's marketing department figured out how to pander.
If true then the game is gonna have some impressive chops behind it. Dave has never been one to try and screwball people and has given us some of the best Star Wars content to date. If he has a hand in the development and writing I can definitely see him pulling plot points from TCW,Rebels, and other sources into the game.
Speculation is that the Second Sister is Barriss Offee, considering he retconned her NOT dying in Order 66 and said he had plans for her. But we also might, and this is a potiental to maybe see other characters such as TCW Clones or even side characters like Cad Bane
From a public relations perspective, this is the financial equivalent of denouncing a rival in Stellaris
tbf. Having the Fallout setting always as risk of reverting back to the "stone age" sorta goes with its theme of the whole "War Never Changes" schtick.
Bears also shit in woods.
Dose that writer know that "Go Woke Go Broke" crowd is already harshly criticizing and pre-judging his movie
Avellone is only a narrative designer for Dying Light 2. it appears he was hired primarily to help with the massive new emphasis on player choice in the story, given the claims of hundreds of different branching paths. As far as the actual tone of the story goes, he may not have as much say as he did in games like New Vegas and KOTOR II.
(That being said, if the story does end up being very much in the vein of other Chris Avellone games, that would actually be par for the course as far as this series goes. The first game kills off all its major NPCS in ways that consistently make you feel like you have no real control. And depending on which ending they make canon - if they even make reference to the first game - the entire area the first game takes place in might be nuked to oblivion.
I'm pretty sure he was the lead in KoTOR2 and it turned out fine.
Didn't George Lucas himself ban Avellone from the franchise because KoTOR2 was so scathing of the "good vs. evil" perspective that Lucas was so adamant about?
the only redeeming quality was the back and forth between Kylo and Rey, and the massive dump he did on her parents, but I don't even see disney sticking to her parents being drug addicts who sold their child for drugs, they'll retcon something at some point.
Maybe you all need to learn that people who work on video games are real people with real opinions and real feelings.
Grow up.
except in this case EA is actually retarded
I'm going to wait for actual game play before I judge anything, and then for it to actually come out to have a full opinion.
TBH the Fallout setting is a post-apocalypse one, if you develop it enough it stops being that and becomes some fruity alternative civilization setting. I don't find the doomy aspect particularly depressing, it's more of a plot device like a murder in a murder mystery story and it's only sin is predictability.
Now, that kind of setting has no place in Star Wars in my opinion and I thought prequels shown us that nihilistic Star Wars is bad Star Wars.
I will repeat it forever, Rey and Kylo should have created Jedi 2.0 : Grey edition where they try to find balance and lean on each other.
This should have led to a Jolee/Kreia type thing, not a return to miss goody two shoes and turboangst 2000.
Or at least have common sense leave us on a cliffhanger like Plinkett pointed out. But that would've been too much like The Empire Strikes Back, you see.
Alpha Protocol isn't grimdark, unless you really stretch it, and he was the lead designer on it.
I wish there came along another game like alpha protocol, that game was not perfect but it did the whole branching narrative thing really damn well.
