Yeah the truck driver is definitely in the wrong there, but it’s probably a good idea to avoid overtaking trucks when going around corners. Practically all trucks here have big red and yellow ‘do not overtake turning vehicle’ signs on their rear.
I wasn't really explicitly overtaking him, I was just in the right lane after the truck driver just moved into the left lane. It's not unusual to have multiple lanes of traffic side by side on this road in the morning.
you kinda asked for it tbh
He wasn't overtaking the truck during a turn though. The truck was moving over because the other truck was parked in the middle of the road and he (the truck driver at fault) clearly didn't even look at his mirrors.
Even if he wasn’t overtaking, then he was at the least driving abreast of the truck, and driving abreast of other vehicles (when you can avoid it) is a big no-no. It may not be illegal in most jurisdictions, but it’s one of the things you’re taught to avoid doing when driving.
As I said, the truck driver is certainly in the wrong here, but the situation could have been avoided if both drivers took adequate precautions.
I wasn't really next to the truck any longer than s couple of seconds. I thought the truck was going to slow down and give way to his right because of the parked truck.
Idk know it is in upside down country, but here merging into a lane without paying attention to your surroundings is often seen as a the reason why accidents like this happen rather than blaming a person keeping their lane. You're basically blaming the driver for someone jerking the wheel into them.
Morgen isn't at fault here, but it's true that you could see the accident coming from a mile away.
Not being in the wrong doesn't matter in accidents. It only matters for insurance companies. In accidents "being right" doesn't give you a magic shield that protects you from dying when you get crushed by a delivery truck driver who isn't paying attention.
Why the fuck are you blaming the truck driver? This is clearly Morgen’s fault for being abreast of the truck, which is a big no-no, especially when he more than likely saw the fucking truck.
I don't really see why you would give the truck the extra space on a relatively straight road with a minor curve. On junctions sure, but in this case the road is absolutely wide enough for the truck to stay in his lane and go around the bend. I was only next to him for two seconds, and another two and I would've gone past him. If he simply lifted off the accelerator for a second he wouldn't of even had to stop for the other parked truck.
it's a meme you dip
you don't change lane without checking first, end of discussion
100% of the blame falls on the truck who fundamentally did not look where they were driving - which gets people killed
Doh, I've been had.
Damn that sucks man, hope it's not a write off.
6k to fix, truck drivers insurance admitted liability quickly so shouldn't be an issue on that front. Sounds like the parts might take a long time though, apparently Nissan don't keep spare Leaf parts in the UK and they have to come from Japan. A bit weird since they build leafs in Sunderland.
I wouldnt see the accident coming because i would expect people to look before they turn. You know, the absolute most basic rule in driving?
I was taught to assume everyone on the road around me is a sheer idiot and to never trust them. Defensively, of course, you don't want to become one of the assholes yourself.
And honestly, I can't tell you how many times thinking "I'm not going to trust that vehicle even though they've done nothing wrong yet" has saved my keester from becoming road mince meat.
But really, having to think like that is horrible and disheartening, drivers shouldn't HAVE to be so negative and cynical to not just die a violent death going to/from work or whatever, so I don't blame anyone for not always thinking like that and ending up getting fucked over by someone who has a perfect vacuum where their brain should be.
Driving sucks.
One of those dumb things where they ship them over pretty much already built but just need a few parts tacked on to say its built in the UK.
Nissan has been doing it for years, along with Land Rover, Ford and GM with Vauxhall when they owned them.
Its annoying because if you need parts, there ain't any domestically because they only ship over what is required to build a vehicle in the country and even then its "build" in big quotation marks.
6k for the frontend isn't bad (if insurance decides to cover it) when considered what the others will bill you, it gets into really stupid money fast, to the degree its not even worth paying for replacements, Ford will charge you the price of the car new for a set new fucking headlights for example, its absolutely retarded.
@Morgen I was looking up car crash compilations when your particular crash came up:
https://youtu.be/EqbR8g8-Pbg?t=467
(7:47) if you're curious.
Interesting. I guess someone spent some time googling since it's not a listed video and only linked from here.
thanks to your video (and also watching lots of other car crash compliations on youtube) i have become even more cautious of driving next to HGVs/LGVs when approaching any corner or merge.
If any of them touch the line now I'm just honking the horn now to let them know something's there.
care to elaborate?
Idk why he's blaming the driver, He crashed his own car by overtaking him, something that's a big no-no ESPECIALLY when he more than likely saw the fucking truck.
