I can''t be the only one hearing those HL2 walking sounds
Those are Half-Life 1 walking sounds.
iirc most Half-Life sound effects are from public domain soundbanks so hearing them in other media isn't that weird.
Welcome to the team that makes God Eater. Great environment designers, great monster designs, fucking horrifically generic anime character designs that don't match anything else in the game
Seems ...rushed?
That artstyle looks awful
Gonna be contrarian here, I actually like the character designs
I honestly don't get why people like anime characters so much. They're borderline stereotypical by now.
I think the problem is less the designs themselves and more the out of place anime art-style they're presented in. Just making the characters look more realistic would make them hold up better I think.
Or making the environments more anime. They just stand out in a bad way.
I completely forgot about this souls clone game. The footstep/character sounds are really loud though.
I guess I'm the only one who isn't weirded out by the art style. It isn't that different from many anime (especially ones with post-apocalyptic settings) where the backgrounds are highly detailed while the characters are toon-shaded with thick outlines that contrast them against the backgrounds. This game they simply uses soft toon shading on the skin/hair and heavy rim lights to set the characters apart from the world, and I think it's an interesting way to emulate the anime equivalent. There are other popular games that do the same thing, albeit more subtly (like Nier: Automata). This game does feel very rough in the sound department, though. The English dub is simply horrible, and there are so many jarring sound effect volume choices. At least the gameplay looks alright.
Anime is a genre of illustration so things in that genre will be stereotyped in that they're part of that category. Categories are useful for us because they're stereotypes - I don't really see how this devalues them in any way, and I don't even watch anime.
