Arson, murder, and mahjong.
They also fixed the loophole of changing blood color. I kinda feel sorry for them, no meaningful game is ever going to approach their market uncensored.
There goes a large chunk of sales for shooters and the like...
Glad to see good Christian values still protect our kids somewhere in this world
I think I'd be more understanding of the ban on blood and corpses if it weren't for the fact that China tortures and murders anyone they want for pretty much any reason.
We're almost there for 1984 to become true
Hypocrisy is a dictatorship's MO
Honestly, I couldn't give less of a shit about what their insane dictatorship does to their billion+ population. What's painfully frustrating is that AAA titles will essentially be forced to either make a second version of their game specifically for the Chinese market, or make a single version of the game that meets their standards anyway and sell it anyway (because who in their right mind would ignore hundreds of millions of potential buyers?). We already saw an inkling of this with Rainbow Six: Siege, which Ubisoft quickly retracted after backlash - I can tell you it's going to be the norm very, very soon.
The title doesn't make it clear that they're banning all games that have gambling mechanics in them, of which poker and mahjong are two of the most popular. I was initially confused, because China banning mahjong outright would be like the US banning Monopoly.

Devising a checklist to appease the censorship is kinda already a thing for most companies looking to penetrate that market. Any game that can afford low violence & low sex (E10+ rating essentially) won't have any problem.
Yes, forget their citizens. Truly it is us gamers who are the most oppressed. Gamers rise up!
We never censored games for Germany, We have always censored games for China.
iirc wolfenstein games were censored for germany
I cannot tell if you're joking- see: CS:GO https://youtu.be/VCL6OtLhqH4?t=46
Look guys I was trying to paraphrase an actual 1984 quote: Oceania was at war with Eurasia; therefore Oceania had always been at war with Eurasia. If the context of this quote was moved to videogame censorship, it would mean that we are no longer censoring for those that previously demanded censorship (germany) but rather pretend to have always censored for the sake of those that demand it now (china).
To be fair, iirc games in Germany where only censored because some dumb laws about it being children's toys and not art and thus had to follow strict guidelines and companies complied because no one wanted to risk losing a bunch of cash in a court battle to decide whether games should be considered art or toys.
Can we just, wall off the entirety of China, disconnect any sort of contact they have with the outside world infrastructure-wise and then kill-on-sight anyone who tries to enter or leave be it by on foot, plane or car?
throwback to tf2's gear gibs which were introduced for germany
Thats just funny and I would totally turn it on if given the choice for laughs, like the above mentioned TF2 gibs that made people explode into hamburgers, cogs and rubber ducks.
Jesus remember me never to make a reference that actually require you to have read the work in question.
Psychopath.
lmao I remember back in 2010 when this was added to CSS even for non German players. Everyone was pissed. They eventually removed it.

How about we instead remember you to actually use the reference correctly. You buggered it in pretty much every way possible. For starters, the actual quote is in the form of: "We were at war with X; therefore, we were always at war with X." The subjects are the same. Your "reference" changed it so the subjects were different: "We were at war with X; therefore, we were always at war with Y." On top of that, you also buggered the verb agreement. The verbs in the actual quote are in compounding agreement: "We were <verb> with X; therefore, we were <even stronger verb> with X." You made the verbs diametrically in disagreement: "We don't censor; we do censor." Getting upset that people didn't catch your "reference" would be like getting upset when people fail to realize that the statement "Wow, it's totally empty" is a "reference" to the quote "My God, it's full of stars." All in all, your reference gets a 3/10 from me. See me after class.
Your paraphrasing is both unclear and doesn't reflect the sentiment of the quote you're paraphrasing.
hahahahahaha "who gives a shit about millions of people being thrown into camps, reeducated, tortured and possibly executed, it's MY games that matter" i don't know how out of touch you have to be to hold a worldview like this
