Damn. Pilot ejected safely, nobody seriously injured inside the building and damage seems minimal considering it's a military jet that nose-dived into it.
so many things went right here, the plane managed to hit the one unoccupied building in an industrial park, the building was filled with shelving and boxes, and nothing caught fire.
This is crazy.
It must have been out of fuel to not burn. Crazy stuff.
Had a friend post some pictures when he drove by today. Crazy stuff.
Man falls out of an airplane.
Oh, that's bad!
No, that's good, he had a parachute.
Oh, that's good!
No, that's bad, the parachute didn't open.
Oh, that's bad!
No, that's good, he hit a haystack!
...
No, really, he did. He's fine.
They say any landing you walk away from is a good one, but as far as crashes go this is damn good.
Considering the amount of hazmat / bomb squad vehicles that littered the freeway when it happened this was probably best case crash scenario,
though I did hear that one person is seriously injured.
Happened 4 freeway exits up from me.
Didn't know so many people from facepunch were from Riverside
Wouldn't be surprised if it was the pilot, honestly. Ejecting is fucking harrowing on the body at the best of times.

Just imagine that.
Grew up in Moreno Valley, in Murrieta now.
And yeah it's pretty wild how many people are from this part of southern california in general.
used to go to the air base museum for air shows all the time when I was little.
Hope we find out more about why he lost the plane.
I can't imagine what that must've sounded like on the inside of that building.
Holy shit, someone up on high was feeling in a good mood when this all went down. Absolute miracle that no one was hurt or no other major damage was done besides the obvious.
F16's get into some crazy shit. Here's some accident reports.
" The aircraft was hit by lightning while on the ramp at Bødø AB. The lightning strike was so severe that almost all onboard systems were destroyed. With the pending retirement of the Norwegian F-16 fleet it wasn't worth fixing. The aircraft is setup as a spare part reserve with some restrictions in place for re-use of electrical equipment. "
" The F-16 was involved in a mid-air collision with another F-16 of the 121st FS (#87-0314) when executing a routine night training mission off the coast of Chincoteague, approximately 70 miles southeast of Washington. The accident occurred over water at 22:28 local time. The pilot ejected and was rescued out of the water at 00:30 local on August 2nd. The other F-16 landed safely. "
" Crashed into the sea, southwest of Chiayi AB around 14:30h local time. The pilot, Lieutenant Wu Yen-ting, ejected safely and was rescued by helicopter. "
" The F-16 crashed around 14:15 local time near the town of Yarpuz, in the mountainous southern area of Amansolar in Osmaniye province (about 25 miles (40km) from the Syrian border). The pilot, Lt. Hamza Gümüşsoy, ejected but unfortunately got killed. "

It's one of the most commonly used fighters in the entire world, and also used to train pilots. It's gonna get into some shenanigans.
also currently in Murrieta, who woulda thunk it
Some of the reports I'm seeing are that the plane was carrying live ordnance. I'm not sure if that's 100% confirmed, but clearly they at least thought it was possible. It definitely isn't a bad idea for first responders to treat any crashed military aircraft as potentially carrying bombs.
I fucking love the F-16 and its a marvel of engineering for its time and still to this day. Fucker's a beaut and I love it as much as the Warthog.
In 96 an F-14 Tomcat crashed in my neighborhood. I didn't see it but judging by the sound (And aftermath) it barely scraped the ground, nearly being saved, just before crashing. The noise the engines made before the plane exploded make a properly working jet in afterburner sound quiet in comparison. Sounded like a turbine engine having a monkey wrench tossed into it, making a high pitched metallic grinding whining sound as if ball bearings in a vacuum cleaner are going bad, except it's so loud the noise physically hurts your ears. I've been to several concerts, including Green Day, and they didn't come close to how loud those engines got. The explosion wasn't as loud, but it shook everything pretty violently for a brief second
Don't you just hate it when that happens
There's a billion of us from socal.
Wasn't that last one a Syrian national pilot and landed behind rebel lines and was captured and killed like it's still 600ad?
I don't envy that guy
it doesn't even have to be carrying bombs and missiles, the cannon ammunition is dangerous enough as it is.
