https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2019-05-15-epic-games-store-stealth-launches-in-china What's interesting here is that the EGS doesn't have its own launcher, unlike Steam, which was denied access and had to partner with a Chinese company and make an off-shoot to enter the Chinese market.
A year ago I would have said having Tencent as an investor would be a big help, but considering Tencent's been screwed over six ways from Sunday and had virtually none of their games approved in those last few rounds, with the recent Chinese restrictions on games I doubt they have much more of a pull with the government.
Well it WAS quiet...
I always love seeing Hello Neighbor featured prominently on anything Epic related. A great sign of quality that is.
Good for them I guess?
oh no Fortnite entered China
Instead of the storm closing in for battle royale... there's just a encircling hoard of Mongolians.
Totally alright with this as long as this guy becomes a skin. http://2.images.southparkstudios.com/images/shows/south-park/clip-thumbnails/season-6/0611/south-park-s06e11c06-city-wok-guys-great-wall-16x9.jpg?quality=0.8
Doxx: ban me for a year if Epic Games doesn’t start censoring games within the year.
This is how the chinese government falls
And they got new rules aswell, so I bet we'll hear about lazy devs that don't bother making two versions and give the west a censored version that China would approve, which by the way is on an insane level now.
Real talk, why is that game everywhere? It's actual trash, but I see merch for it all the time.
It was a flavor of the week game on youtube back when it was just a tech demo thing but it had promise. But they banked way too hard on it being a huge hit on top of the fact that the final product was weak as fuck. And that's why we have stuffed dolls of middle aged balding men in the clearance bin at gamestop. Because that is definitely something kids want to buy.
So basically it was Fortnite without the Tencent money.
in what world does this comparison make any sense?
Flavor of the week youtube game that's really just a tech demo, except Fornite had a marketing budget.
fortnite is more like the flavor of the past few years
People played Hello Neighbor out of curiosity and/or ironically for about a week. For some reason it kept some of that popularity, spawning hundreds of clones on the Android store, but no amount of money would suddenly turn it into the mega hit that Fortnite is. People are still playing Fortnite to this day because they enjoy it. It's far from a tech demo, and it got big before it even had any marketing.
