Amid a nationwide debate on abortion, a Michigan state lawmaker said the procedure should be “painful” for women. Republican Sen. Kim LaSata was on Michigan Radio defending a
proposed ban on an abortion procedure known as dilation-and-evacuation, typically used in the second trimester.
“Of course it should be hard, and the procedure should be painful, and you should allow God to take over, and you should deliver that baby, and you should handle the situation,” LaSata,
56, said.
LaSata revealed that she had an abortion after doctors told her that her fetus would not survive birth. The fetus was delivered stillborn after the procedure, which she called “God looking
out for me.” All women, she said, should have to carry a fetus to term regardless of viability.
this is definitely something a good person would say. not at all definably evil.
"my anecdotal experience gives me authority to judge all other women" btw delivering a stillborn fetus is dangerous in of itself since it could cause an infection
“God looking out for me.” All women, she said, should have to carry a fetus to term regardless of viability.
It's too bad separation of church and state is just theoretical these days or we wouldn't have fucking nutjobs like this in power.
How about we stop acting like God has any place in day to day life much less the basis for decisions that are entirely political.
Also, it takes 2 fucking people to make a baby. Why does it seem like legislators only care about punishing the woman carrying? Somebody had to put that shit there. Where are all the legislators calling for every nut to be counted as murder, since viable sperm is being spilled freely without the purpose of procreation?
Because they grew up in an era where women were subserviant housekeepers who existed to make them dinner and children at their whim, and this is about as close as they can get to reliving those days.
With all due respect, in your case, none, fuck off and crawl into a hole to die.
Absolutely disgustingly sexist.
this is definitley exactly what Jesus wouldve said
Hold up.
"I had an abortion because the fetus wasn't viable, therefore abortion should be banned (or at least painful) and you should carry a fetus to term regardless of viability."
what fucking moon logic is this
do we really need any more proof that these people aren't pro life but just anti women
I mean, the Bible says childbirth is painful.
Which assholes have interpreted to mean childbirth should be painful, and so should anything else because women can eat shit for not having a penis I guess.
God has no place in legislative government. Render unto Ceasar.
Her abortion was botched and she gave birth which I assume shattered her sanity
reminds me of the best bumper sticker I ever saw:
"the road to hell is paved with republicans"
Another day, another batshit Republican somehow still in public office.
Who the fuck votes for these people lol. Oh... Right.
I fucking hate Christian views on the value of birth and the role of women.
• A pregnant woman who is injured and aborts the fetus warrants financial compensation only (to her husband), suggesting that the fetus is property, not a person (Exodus 21:22-25).
• The gruesome priestly purity test to which a wife accused of adultery must submit will cause her to abort the fetus if she is guilty, indicating that the fetus does not possess a right to life (Numbers 5:11-31).
• God enumerated his punishments for disobedience, including "cursed shall be the fruit of your womb" and "you will eat the fruit of your womb," directly contradicting sanctity-of-life claims (Deuteronomy 28:18,53).
• Elisha's prophecy for soon-to-be King Hazael said he would attack the Israelites, burn their cities, crush the heads of their babies and rip open their pregnant women (2 Kings 8:12).
• King Menahem of Israel destroyed Tiphsah (also called Tappuah) and the surrounding towns, killing all residents and ripping open pregnant women with the sword (2 Kings 15:16).
• Isaiah prophesied doom for Babylon, including the murder of unborn children: "They will have no pity on the fruit of the womb" (Isaiah 13:18).
• For worshiping idols, God declared that not one of his people would live, not a man, woman or child (not even babies in arms), again confuting assertions about the sanctity of life (Jeremiah 44:7-8).
• God will punish the Israelites by destroying their unborn children, who will die at birth, or perish in the womb, or never even be conceived (Hosea 9:10-16).
• For rebelling against God, Samaria's people will be killed, their babies will be dashed to death against the ground, and their pregnant women will be ripped open with a sword (Hosea 13:16).
• Jesus did not express any special concern for unborn children during the anticipated end times: "Woe to pregnant women and those who are nursing" (Matthew 24:19).
Jesus doesn't carry about fetus's
I guess Republicans finally realized that the supreme Court and their rulings don't apply to then for some reason, so now they're pushing all this literal cancer out. Wonder what their next hot topic will be. Probably making slavery legal again
Outlaw the opposition, then make slavery legal. Dictatorial priorities.
It's anecdotal but i had to have a dilation abortion. I miscarried at twelve weeks and my body failed to eject the fetus. It was the most painful thing i have ever experienced. If i think about it too much i can still feel the needle. It's very visceral. The clinic often gives valium (it's not nearly enough) before the procedure and you have more options if you can afford it. I was dead broke. I wouldn't wish that pain on anyone. This women is naive and cruel. A lot of women her age look at the pain as punishment or as a penance. It doesn't make sense unless you hold certain views on women, sex, and women that have sex.
Kim LaSata is pretty notorious where I'm from for saying some dumb shit, but this is frankly heinous. What's more surreal is I used to see her family around quite often as we went to the same school and I can't help but feel for her daughters knowing they were raised in a household by someone who can hold these beliefs.
It takes a special sort of person to basically have the gall to literally be thankful that their unborn baby died and then use that to justify harming the viability of abortion, itself.
My now ex-wife had to go through the same procedure for our first baby. Babies born after miscarriages are called rainbow babies, that's what my boy is.
I'm not good with words but i'm sorry for what you had to go through. Lasata and others want to paint a certain narrative about reproductive health care. Our stories contradict that narrative so they never mention the women who's lives are saved by reproductive health care or the impact on their partners.
