This is the way it is with the Zone: if you come back with swag - it's a miracle; if you come back alive - it's a success; if the patrol bullets miss you - it's a stroke of luck. And as for anything else - that's fate.
Roadside Picnic, Arkady and Boris Strugatsky
Welcome to the Zone.
The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is made up of a total of three games thus far: Shadow of Chernobyl , Clear Sky , and Call of Pripyat . Two popular unofficial branches of the series are Lost Alpha, which seeks to restore the old alpha content, and Call of Chernobyl, a massive modification that links SoC, CS and CoP's maps into a massive free-roaming and story-less modders' resource, have also been released.
Each game has its own set of unique experiences, stories, and features that give a new twist upon the life of a Stalker. The game series is based off of the Chernobyl nuclear catastrophe, with it's own fictional additions. The Zone is an irradiated man-made Hell that was formed after a second explosion at the nuclear powerplant. It is filled with mysterious phenomena known as anomalies, and it is also home to grotesque mutated wildlife. There are many dangers that may await you at every corner, but there are also many treasures to be found as well. Keep your eyes open, your bolts at hand, and with a level head you may just survive.
Q: What order should I play these games in?
A: I'd recommend playing them in the order they were released, Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Pripyat.
Doing it any other way may ruin certain game experiences or spoil the story!
Q: i hear these games have some bizarre difficulty system, how does it work?
A: check out this handy chart
Q: I just bought these games is there anything I should install right off the bat?
A: For Shadow of Chernobyl you could install the Facepunch Starter Pack if you feel like you need to, and for Clear Sky install The Sky Reclamation Project .
These are community bug fixes that will make your experience with the games more pleasant.
Call of Pripyat on the other hand is the most stable build of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. so far and only requires to be on the latest patch.
Other than this don't install anything else, playing mods on your first playthrough is not encouraged. PLEASE don't use STALKER Complete.
Use ZRP if you really want to have a bug-free experience.
Q: How do I install these mods?
A: First get to the directory for the game you want to install the stuff in -
Steam: "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common" - In the common folder the games will be in their own folders.
Shadow of Chernobyl: "C:\Program Files\THQ\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl"
Clear Sky: "C:\Program Files\Deep Silver\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Clear Sky"
Call of Pripyat: "C:\Program Files\bitComposer Games\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Call of Pripyat"
If you're running a 64-bit OS then go to the (x86) portion of your program files.
Depending on what you're installing it's most likely going be a folder named "gamedata", just toss that into the main directory.
Also go into the "fsgame.ltx" file and open it in notepad, then go the the line game_data and make it look like this: $game_data$ = true|true|$fs_root$|gamedata\
Q: How do I reduce/get rid of this annoying headbob?!
A: Open the console with tilde - type 'cam_inert x' where:
x = 0.00 to 1.00
0.00 = no headbob at all
Tilde is the ~ key if you didn't know.
Q: How do I change FOV in this game? I'm about to puke!
A: Use this tool by our very own TKGP. Works with all of the games, but mod compatability may vary, check the readme for more info.
Q: What about STALKER 2?
A: GSC have made some promising noises about Stalker 2, and there's a site! But seeing is believing, and until we see concrete evidence of a game being worked on it's not worth getting too excited.
It'd certainly be interesting to see STALKER: 4/Subtitle (Would it really be 2 since the 2nd game was Clear Sky?), the main thing would be capturing that atmosphere that the others caught so well, hopefully no bugs and what not, I'd like to see how they expand upon the series, hopefully less jank and more refined gameplay.
Clear Sky is a prequel to Shadow of Chernobyl. Call of Pripyat continues the story of Shadow of Chernobyl.
Make way for the best bar and bar song in the game

I've completely butchered my Shadow Of Chernobyl blind run by not restocking myself after the Brain Scorcher mission.
Pripyat was a slog because I didn't have a sniper rifle and barely had enough ammo to fight the monoliths, and I got completely stuck at the Sarcophagus due to my lack of anti-rads and ammunition. I couldn't do it even after finding the stash hidden in one of the first rooms.
I might reload back from the red forest and try again.
Still, a consideration, despite my resource mismanagement, Stalker's strongest moments are when the game lets you explore at your own pace (X-18 and X-16 were fantastic). Red Forest, Pripyat and the NPP feel heavily underutilized in comparison.
I've started a run on Call Of Pripyat since a friend of mine told me that it has more of that cool exploration from the first half of SOC, and so far i'm liking it a lot. (Loaded it with AtmosFear, Absolute Nature and Structures)
I mean you can get away with not calling the second game to be released, STALKER 2 if it's a prequel, but Call of Pripyat is then STALKER 2, so STALKER 3 is the next game, dunno what it'll be about though or when it'll be.
Anyone here tried Oblivion Lost Remake? Having a blast playing that. I mean just look at this:

If anyone's interested, here are some installation instructions that a guy on the "Discord of Chernobyl" sent me: Greetings, STALKER community! This is the Genies of the Zone tea..
ah perfect, you post this just as I wanted to get back into stalker

Yeah the dogs really hunt in hordes in this mod, but I'd advise to use your binoculars to check your way, that way you can mostly avoid them and just let duty die dealing with them.
What's worse are those "invisible" anomalys in agroprom aka medpro. These ones e.g.:

So far I haven't found a way to pass through them(there's a dead military guy behind them that I'd like to loot + some artifacts).
jesus christ X18 is FUCKED
not playing this shit anymore.
Spawning 20 zombies and a bunch of bulletproof bloodsuckers because you picked up a piece of fucking paper is not good mod design, fuck this.
seems like a fun mod to try out
does anyone know any cool sandbox mods centered around faction wars?

Oh fuck not that anomaly, I was playing another mod that had them (OGSE?) and it nearly gave me a fucking heart attack. It caused my arachnophobia to kick in because I thought a spider's legs were closing around me.
The Faction War for Clear Sky but I don't think thats been updated in a long time.
Warfare for Call of Chernobyl is another choice
ive already played those two, but thanx
Even worse, they were able to catch and kill you even if you were driving incediblty hihg speeds in your brand new humvee
Instant death in games have always been a jumpscare

speak of the devil
This is cool, but I just hope that the actual coop is working properly and that its development isn't getting bogged down by all the additional content.
Screw RoH, from beginning it was known that they messed idea too much because they where focused on useless stuff like music/posters and other crap that have no point in stalker coop.
For now only "hope" is xrMPE
I just want to co-op the games sp with a buddy or four
this is literally all I want
Hell I'd take CoC with co-op, I just wanna wander the zone with friends
Thank's for bringing xrMPE to my knowledge.
I don't know if this has been shared in the previous thread (didn't see it personally at least), but it's looking jaw dropping.
