Arkansas Republican Senator Tom Cotton said Sunday he believes a fetus has constitutional rights and that life begins at conception. Cotton discussed abortion at length on Meet the
Press with host Chuck Todd Sunday, repeatedly decrying the "unelected judges" of the Supreme Court for allowing the procedure across the U.S. without democratic debate.
Existing abortion precedents, like 1973's Roe v. Wade decision were, in Cotton's eyes, "wrongly decided as a constitutional matter," and argued that instead, these decision are ones that
the "American people ought to make through their elected representatives."
Cotton continued: "I personally believe that life does begin at conception, that's the standard that most Republicans who have held the presidency in modern times have held as well. Now,
we understand there are certain tragic cases like rape or incest or where a mother's life is in danger that we ought to make an account for — that was the position that Ronald Reagan has
as well."
Todd pressed Cotton on how he can believe life begins at conception and still make exceptions in the cases of rape or incest. Cotton responded by claiming without evidence — and
contrary to available polling data — that a "vast majority of Americans" are opposed to abortion. He said he is concerned that parents may soon choose to abort an unborn child out of
fears of genetic defects.
Here’s the problem. When you take a job in public service, you’re not supposed to act on personal beliefs.
YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO ACT ON THE WILL OF YOUR CONSTITUENTS.
Act for the people you represent, not yourself.
He is, they willingly voted him in after all.

Yeah but your party seems to believe that anyone with a darker skin tone doesn't. Nor do women. Or people on the LGBT spectrum. Or people who don't believe in your religion. Oh and don't forget the poor. So why the fuck should we give the slightest shit about your beliefs about fetuses?
"...that's why I say that one of the major problems with having unelected judges make these kind of decisions is we don't have the ability to have those democratic debates."
Elected judges would be terrible, for something which is meant to be non-partisan and non-biased forcing them to campagin and be held accountable to populist opinion would fuck up any hope of just court proceedings.
The point isn't that the fetus has constitutional rights. Even if it did, abortion would still be legal.
The issue is that they want a fetus to have EXTRA rights in addition to those given to born humans.
You can't force a mother to donate blood or donate an organ to keep her 3 year old child alive without her consent, so how can you force a mother to carry a pregnancy without her consent?
Blatant attacks on women, completely disgusting.
oh and only fetuses of americans, can't forget they also as a platform oppose birthright citizenship.
Electing a judge is a stupid idea, you may as well whore out the legal system
Yet another Republican whose mother should've swallowed him.
