https://thinkprogress.org/white-house-trump-insurrection-act-military-force-remove-undocumented-immigrants-241807ab2572/ White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley downplayed reports Friday that the Trump administration was considering invoking the Insurrection Act to remove immigrants from the country — but he didn’t rule out that it was still on the table. “There are lots of tools at [President Donald Trump’s] disposal,” Gidley said, speaking with Fox & Friends. “We haven’t used them all and we’re looking at ways to protect the American people.” Under the Insurrection Act of 1807, the president has the authority to use military force within the country’s borders, but only in the very specific instances of “insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy.” It can also be invoked in disaster scenarios, but only if there is such widespread domestic violence that local authorities cannot maintain public order. The presence of undocumented immigrants in the country in no way meets these qualifications. Trump seemed to reinforce the idea that he would invoke military force in a tweet Friday morning, in which he described building up “removal forces.” All people that are illegally coming into the United States now will be removed from our Country at a later date as we build up our removal forces and as the laws are changed,” he wrote. “Please do not make yourselves too comfortable, you will be leaving soon!”
I wonder what US military recruitment interest figures have been like these past few months under Trump, if they're even available anywhere? Surely there's a huge number of millenial people who want to join the Military but want to hold off until they know they're not going to be used as the US version of the SS Einsatzgruppen. In a way that could be a very, very bad thing as only those who would be prepared to obey the orders of Trump as C-in-C would be likely to wholeheartedly sign up right now. That said, I'm talking about people who largely have had some inkling of a dream to be in the military their whole lives, speaking as someone who's been there and wanted that myself. I don't think anything ever made me think twice, and I really had no idea how I would deal with illegal or immoral orders. I wonder if some of our veterans could weigh in as to whether they ever thought about what they would do if it all went crazy and you became the bad guys.
That'll show those scary brown people just trying to look for a better life away from the threat of drugs, pitched battles in the street between cartels and the mexican police, and the likelihood of being cut down in the crossfire or beheaded for looking funny at one of the zetas, all we need to deal with a bunch of harmless immigrants is just a powerful army and the threat of more of the same they already endured to get here. /s
I think at this point if there was a military coup in the US or some extremist assassinated the President tomorrow the global reaction would amount to: 'Oh, no. How sad. Whatever shall we do. So what's today's forecast?' Hell, I think that'd be the reaction of an awful lot of people living in the States, too. Exhaustion doesn't even begin to describe how sick most of us are of his shit. Not that either of those things are ever going to happen, since most of the most vocal 'second amendment people' seem to have finally dispensed with their moral posturing and whole-heartedly thrown their support behind this fascist police state.
I'm actually currently in recruitment process at the moment, I have heavily considered waiting on enlisting but currently I need to make a life changing move and relatively quickly here I've developed a career path through the military service which alleviates the cost of education and then some on to the military while I am able to attend and further myself. That is absolutely the main reason for my choice to enlist if it was for any other reason you damn well bet I would of held off indefinitely.
