At least five members of Pelosi’s leadership team — four who also sit on the House Judiciary Committee with jurisdiction over impeachment — pressed Pelosi to allow the panel to start the inquiry, which they argued would help investigators attain documents and testimony Trump has blocked. Pelosi, according to people in the room, pushed back on the idea with senior leaders, including House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.). Pelosi has also long been an impeachment skeptic and tried to tamp down impeachment talk in her caucus as recently as last week by encouraging members to focus on their legislative agenda. However, a core group of Judiciary Democrats on Tuesday plans to begin calling for an impeachment inquiry if former White House counsel Don McGahn does not show for subpoenaed testimony at 10 a.m., according to multiple people familiar with the plan. During the Monday night leadership meeting, Pelosi was speaking about how Democrats’ messaging isn’t breaking through because everyone is talking about corruption, special counsel Robert S. Mueller’s report and impeachment. That’s when Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), a subcommittee chairman on Judiciary, jumped in to say something along the lines of “Madam Speaker, you’ve just made a great case for an impeachment inquiry,” according to people in the room who summarized his words. Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairwoman Cheri Bustos — who has argued that it is time for members to move on from impeachment talk before — pushed back as well, arguing that the DCCC did focus groups on topics voters cared about and said Mueller’s inquiry ranked among the bottom.
Pelosi sits on her hands, hoping keeping Trump in office will ensure a Democratic victory in 2020 Meanwhile, Trump is actively pushing for the DoJ to investigate Biden and probably any other potential front runner.
Support for impeachment is higher right now than when they started the impeachment inquiry into Nixon. If you can't impeach a man like Trump, you're not going to be able to impeach anyone ever again.
Investigate Bernie. See what you can find. Anything they'd show off would make him more popular.
Unless they make shit up, which at this point, I wouldn't put past them
It wasn't long ago that FP was singing Pelosi's praises and calling her a corporate shill no different than Clinton got your boxes.
She did not impeach Bush over the objections of others. Obama then won and Democrats were in total control from 2008-2010, so in her mind keeping Trump there as baggage is the best option electorally. Morals, ethics etc do not apply.
facepunch is not one person
It's strange how things change over time, in the span of even 4 years. Almost as if people evolve, ideas progress, and needs/wants change.
Surely she is not stupid enough to fall for a gambler's fallacy, right? Let alone the fact that Bush was at the end of his 2nd term, Trump is not.
these fuckers NEED to do something. you have the president of the god damn united states actively telling people who are getting subpeonaed for their information to just IGNORE IT. and they LISTEN. and the primary fucking reason that son of a bitch is doing it is because he knows not pelosi nor anyone will do a goddamn thing about it because she's more concerned with trying to maintain the status quo rather than take the steps necessary to stop the daily erosion of checks and balances while the administration removes another fang from the jaws of justice with each passing day.
Nobody liked her when she became Speaker last year. I mean, yes, there was relief that the Speak wasn’t a Republican, but Pelosi wasn’t exactly the Speaker those around here wanted.
if you think 'willingness to change own mind' is a negative character trait, how do you improve yourself over time? because judging by your posts? lol
