Smart, they're taking the HoloLens approach and marketing it exclusively for businesses. Wearable AR tech will eventually make it to the consumer market but it doesn't yet have any compelling use cases in the consumer space.
I wonder if they're any good at recording illegal street races
Google Glass 1 pivoted to enterprise after the consumer aspect failed hard, but I have no doubt that Hololens inspired the next set of features.

*Yonkers shivers after seeing the news about the Google Glass 2*
I'd genuinely like to have a wearable HUD over one eye while I walk so I don't have to awkwardly hold my phone to watch it or check whatever X notification was. I look like a turbo nerd either way but a Glass-style device would be more fun. If I had even something as simple as visual walking directions and a distance-elapsed/remaining and speed indicator in my peripheral vision I'd probably want to get out and exercise more because I'd have effortless access to that info so I could set myself goals and monitor them actively. Pushing yourself to not pussy out and get on the bus when you're sore and exhausted can be made easier if you can easily see that the rest of the walk home is actually only another kilometer/several minutes even though it feels like it's flat out too far in the moment because your body wants to stop. I don't need a camera, or even a microphone for voice commands, so the privacy concerns can be largely obviated. No camera means no cool AR that maps virtual content 1:1 onto real spaces like, say, a Pokemon on the sidewalk in front of you, but if it keeps me from being punched or kicked out of businesses because people feel like I must be livestreaming them to YouTube if I have a lens on my glasses then I'm okay with the missing feature. Voice commands to a Glass-style device could still be accomplished, but only through something else such as existing Bluetooth headsets or just the phone's own mic. I also know that I am an incurable nerd, not the consumer everyman, before anyone tells me I'm representing a niche consumer market. I still want a Glass-like that delivers on the above.
I just wanna mention how much I appreciate the fact that Cubeman is still FP's resident butt monkey, years and years after the fact.
The biggest challenge for AR glasses isn't going to be having a valid niche or effective technology, it'll be trying to make them fashionable and convince people that you don't look like a turbonerd. That and REEEEEEEE STOP RECORDING MEEEEEEEEEEEE from random people.
Intel is making developing smart glasses that might be a bit more attractive to consumers. https://youtu.be/bnfwClgheF0
Tbh the only feature I give a shit about is glasses that show you a GPS route actively, in the form of it showing up on the street/sidewalk as you go
At that point it could be used for a ton of neat stuff, like automatic translation of text and speech, so you can get subs when you go to Japan.
last year I followed up on the guy trying to find that “local rapist on the loose” gif and he’s on Instagram flexing his cars and their parts these days
I wonder if they're rentals
I think not. I think he even had a subreddit mod position for the very specific brand/make of car it was. Shit was weird
Just in case anyone doesn't know who CubeMan is or why they keep getting referenced.
I like the idea of them working with fitness trackers, too. GPS route, heartrate, step counting, etc. I just want a real-life HUD damn it
when are we getting the snapchat gender swap filter in google glass so i can finally give my bros no-homo blowjobs
I feel the same way with VR honestly. I always feel like a big need when I use my Oculus Rift on front of other people
Only reason I opened this thread was to make another CubeMan joke and I'm glad someone beat me to it. s https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/211198/4af8c0f1-01c9-4cd3-903a-1bd1fd2f09e3/1539319708861.gif
Holy fuck gonna need context on this one
I took that clip from an actual news report on his run for city council or whatev, and just edited in the "rapist on the loose" part because the clip was so creepy to begin with. That gif is like circa early 2014 lmao, and it still pops up on here all the time dude is looking like a t-1000 in that
jesus christ was the cubeman saga really 5 fucking years ago? im getting old fellas... wonder if the press ever showed up at his house
He should combine forces with another famous FPer and become butt monkey_123.
thank you lol I ended up learning everything about cubeman's life then and now last year trying to find this fucking thing
I think they were all uploaded to B-Neids actual youtube channel and he's either deleted them or unlisted them unfortunately. The other one where he's driving in his car and filming himself from the side was another beauty from his channel, but that's gone as well lol
When I hear the word google glass I always think of cubeman, even if I’ve forgotten about it for a long time, classic
But did he ever get his google glass back?
disappointed that rapist on the loose wasnt a real goof
oh shit oh fuck they took my Google Glass oh fuck I'm gonna be poor
