This sounds stupid but where are Garry's Mod's original materials and models?

Where are stuff like male_09.mdl and it's materials etc located as I cannot seem to find it. I want to edit some textures but I cannot find where the .vtf or .mdl is located.

Did you look in the VPK's? GarrysMod/garrysmod/garrysmod_dir.vpk
