This is why I always jack up my pickup. If my chassis doesn't look like its on stilts elevating it 6ft higher than the top of the wheel, it might get scuffed or end up associating with the poor.
Imagine paying $4000 to lower a fucking Passat
Reminds me of the guy that bottomed out his car and destroyed it in our parking lot at work. He was all about how the owner was paying for his car until he realized we'd all been watching him do doughnuts across the street and come speeding into our private parking lot.
I mean I understand the feeling, here speedbumps are brutal even at 20 kmh with a non-modified (but relatively low and stiff) citroen, I have a friend who has to pass speedbumps by entering diagonally because his reasonably low MX5 can't clear speedbumps, there are also speedbumps that are borderline impossible to pass with a wide but low car. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/58146/f18284fe-659f-46ca-aecc-cf0f402ab0cd/imagen.png (They are much taller than they appear, and in my citroen I can barely do them at 15kmh). https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/58146/cf81d495-afab-4c8e-a77a-eb7876c61f91/imagen.png
Your own damn fault for lowering it that much, bucko.
Pertinent bit I just added to the OP: Fitzgibbon lowered his Volkswagen Passat so it only has four inches of ground clearance which means he can no longer take his usual route to work through his home village in Limerick, Ireland since the village has installed six-inch speed bumps on various roads in town. So Fitzgibbon has had to re-route his commute and told the Daily Mail:  “That’s an extra 30 miles a day, 150 miles a week, 600 miles a month, and 7,000 miles a year - all because of speed bumps that are too high for my car.”  On top of the extra mileage and driving he's incurring, Fitzgibbon also claims to have around $2,500 worth of damage to his car by driving over the speed bumps and now he wants the village to pay for it.  He wants them to pay for mileage too lmao
6 inch speed-bumps are pretty massive. There are many cars (even my car with stock suspension) that would probably not clear those. Typical speedbumps are 2-4 inches tall IIRC.
The city says they're 3 inches. However, the Limerick City Council reported back that the speed bumps are in fact not six inches high but rather about half that height, just under three inches.
I think I'm just a lame loser man who doesn't get cool cars, because I can't fucking stand people who drive around with super lowered cars. My town is basically centralized around one long main road that has speed bumps every fifty meters or so. It's infuriating to get stuck behind someone who has a lowered car because they need to basically slow to a stop at every single speed bump. A lot of drivers are courteous about this and will let you overtake them if this is the case, but a lot of others aren't.
A car that’s unusable isn’t cool.
What really gets me are the people who lower their car so much they have to have their wheels at an angle.
I'm a manlet so I should really get the biggest truck I can get and then get giant wheels + a giant suspension, that way I can pretend to be an even smaller man
The thing is, his car doesn't look lower than my Miata is stock. There might be something up here, either the bumps are way bigger than they should be, or he's not telling the truth.
I'm pretty sure they'll just think you have a small penis.
What a fuckin cry-baby. All this is going to do is probably cause some kind of ordinance on car modifications if he gets away with it. And he probably knew what he was doing. The oil pan is pretty exposed on those, and in front of the front subframe, so a good hit to the car just behind the bumper can crack the pan and cause it to piss oil everywhere.
"Think" haha a funny jest
That’s not a necessity. It’s just a style thing. A really stupid style thing.
'Twas just a joke about overcompensation.
Should've invested that 4 grand into Air Ride suspension
Typical "if I cause problems then others have to solve them!!! The world revolves around me alone!!!!" I wanna bet he also breaks the speed limit twice if there werent any speed bumps, he looks like that kind of douche that lowers a passat out of all cars. They are there for a reason, so I hope this gets struck down because else it'll set a dangerous standard for others.
Lads car would cease to exist if he tried driving it here
I bloody hate these stupid fads. Why the fuck do people mod diesel family cars too? You've bought the completely wrong thing in the first place. If his is diesel I bet he's removed the DPF too, charge him for that. Also stancing needs to be made illegal on public roads, it's even more ridiculous than slamming a car.
As easy as it is to just blame the guy, there very well might be laws that support his right to drive on the roads with a car that low. 6" seems like a lot for a speed-bump, and 4" isn't that low.
According to the article they’re actually 3”
I'm sorry, but a jacked-up ute with a centre of mass higher than an MRAP isn't exactly screaming "I'm not a country hick like the rest of those peasants!"..
I agree that we need to ban extreme stancing. But dont talk shit about diesels, a TDI engine has a huge tuning potential, a single chiptune can make it pull faster.
You'd brought the wrong goddamn car if you want speed. There's no reason anymore for a diesel engine to be in a car. I'm fucking sick of shitty diesels triggering my asthma even when I'm driving.
this dudes car isn't even low, coward.
A lot of contractors installing the square 'cushions' as they're called here tend to mess it up about half the time and frickity fuck the bottom of your perfectly normal unmodified car at anything other than 15mph below the 20mph speed limit ie 5mph... there are actually some ancient speed bumps in Ely which are so steep they have reinforced plastic blocks on the edges to stop cars wearing them away as they mount them. Driving over them is the physical equivalent of mounting a kerb. My van has a very low breakover angle so I have to take these while practically stationary to avoid underside damage, and I don't drive that way in my (unmodded, dealership serviced) Civic as it has two big plastic noisemakers protruding from the underside to warn you when you hit something too hard, the suspension compresses and you smash the front fairing. They make a crack that makes people jump way down the road and I've already smashed them off once mounting a driveway. Speed bumps are hell. Cardiff Council is the devil.
